- • Are you a seasoned frontend engineer with a passion for bridging the gap between complex technology and real-world application? Do you thrive on ensuring seamless integrations and empowering other development teams to succeed? Ruby Labs is seeking a highly motivated and technically adept Forward-Deployed Engineer (FDE) to join our innovative team and play a pivotal role in the success of our cutting-edge payment orchestration system.
- • At Ruby Labs, we are at the forefront of creating and operating innovative consumer products across the health, education, and entertainment sectors. Our mission is to drive the future of consumer-led products, and we are constantly seeking talented individuals who share our vision and drive. We are currently building a sophisticated payment orchestration system that is integral to the functionality of multiple products and workflows. This system comprises a robust Golang backend API, an intuitive internal CRM, and a dynamic JavaScript frontend SDK designed for seamless payment form integration.
- • As a Forward-Deployed Engineer, you will be the crucial technical liaison between our core payment platform and the diverse array of internal and external product teams that integrate with it. This unique role transcends traditional support functions, demanding a blend of deep frontend engineering expertise, proactive integration assistance, a comprehensive understanding of our product ecosystem, and exceptional customer-facing communication skills. You will be instrumental in ensuring that our payment solution is integrated correctly, supported by crystal-clear documentation, and that feedback loops are efficient and effective, all of which are paramount to successful and secure payment processing.
- • What does “Forward-Deployed” truly mean in this context? It signifies a hands-on, deeply embedded role where you will work intimately with product teams as they integrate our payment solution. Your primary objective will be to guide these teams through the successful integration of our frontend JavaScript SDK and backend APIs. You will develop an intimate understanding of how our system behaves in live, real-world integration scenarios. Crucially, you will act as the eyes and ears on the ground, identifying and channeling real integration issues, unforeseen edge cases, and critical gaps directly back to our core engineering team. This is not about passively answering questions; it's about actively contributing to the evolution of both the SDK and its accompanying documentation based on direct, practical usage.
- • Your key responsibilities will encompass a broad spectrum of critical functions:
- • **SDK Integration & Customer Support:** You will be the primary technical point of contact, assisting product teams in seamlessly integrating our JavaScript payment SDK into their frontend applications. This includes guiding them through the configuration of complex payment flows, managing callbacks effectively, and implementing robust error handling strategies. You will actively monitor various support channels, including Slack, ticketing systems, and shared chat platforms, to provide timely and accurate technical guidance. Your expertise will be crucial in answering intricate technical questions related to SDK usage and API behavior, ensuring teams adhere to best practices for secure, reliable, and compliant payment integrations.
- • **Debugging & Issue Triage:** A significant part of your role will involve the meticulous reproduction of reported integration issues in local or dedicated test environments. You will possess the skills to debug complex issues that span both frontend and backend components, including our JavaScript SDK, the Golang backend API, and our internal CRM and configuration interfaces. A key aspect of this responsibility is accurately triaging issues to determine if they stem from a genuine bug within our system, incorrect integration or usage by the product team, or simply missing or unclear documentation. Once confirmed, you will escalate genuine bugs to the development team, providing comprehensive reproduction steps, detailed context, and potential impact analysis.
- • **Documentation Ownership:** You will take ownership of our developer-facing documentation, critically reviewing and validating API and SDK documentation against the actual behavior of our live system. Your role will involve ensuring that documentation remains consistently synchronized with the latest SDK and API versions. You will proactively identify areas where documentation is lacking, explanations are unclear, or flows are misleading. Based on your direct experience with integration feedback, you will drive improvements to the documentation, making it more accurate, comprehensive, and user-friendly for developers integrating our solution.
- • **Internal Tooling & CRM:** You will gain a deep understanding of our internal Next.js CRM, utilizing it to configure products, payment flows, and various settings. Your insights into the practical application of the CRM will be invaluable, and you will provide constructive feedback to the CRM team regarding usability gaps or missing functionalities. In some instances, you may also be called upon to implement minor frontend improvements to the CRM itself.
- • **Feedback Loop & Product Impact:** You will serve as the crucial 'voice of the integrator' within Ruby Labs, representing the perspectives and challenges faced by product teams. You will be responsible for sharing recurring issues, identifying friction points in the integration process, and articulating improvement ideas to both the engineering and product management teams. Your input will be vital in helping to prioritize fixes and enhancements based on their real-world impact on our users and partners. Ultimately, you will contribute significantly to enhancing the overall developer experience of our payment platform.
- • This role is ideal for an individual who is passionate about enabling others, enjoys solving complex technical puzzles, and wants to make a tangible impact on a growing product ecosystem. If you are a proactive problem-solver with a strong technical foundation and a desire to be at the forefront of innovation, we encourage you to apply.
