Full Job Description
đź“‹ Description
- • As a Forward Deployed Engineer for Deepgram for Restaurants, you will serve as the critical technical bridge between Deepgram’s cutting-edge voice AI platform and enterprise restaurant customers, ensuring seamless integration and real-world performance of speech-to-text, text-to-speech, and voice agent technologies in high-stakes operational environments. Your work directly enables restaurants to transform customer interactions, streamline operations, and unlock measurable ROI from voice AI — making you instrumental in scaling Deepgram’s impact across one of its most strategic verticals.
- • You will own end-to-end technical deployments: leading discovery workshops with customer engineering teams, designing system architectures that align with complex POS, kitchen display, and ordering workflows, writing and debugging production code, configuring APIs and SDKs to match unique menu structures and data flows, and optimizing latency and accuracy under real-world conditions. You will act as the primary technical escalation point, monitoring live systems, diagnosing issues in logs and metrics, and shipping hotfixes — all while maintaining relentless focus on customer success and system reliability.
- • You will embed deeply with enterprise restaurant brands and their technology partners (e.g., Toast, Oracle MICROS, NCR Aloha), becoming a trusted peer who speaks both the language of engineers and the priorities of operations leaders. This includes participating in customer Slack channels, joint war rooms, and onsite visits to understand friction points, then translating those insights into actionable product feedback and internal tooling that accelerates future deployments.
- • You will build reusable assets: codifying deployment patterns into reference architectures, automation scripts, configuration playbooks, and monitoring dashboards that empower the broader Deepgram team to scale efficiently across hundreds of restaurant locations. Your work transforms one-off custom solutions into scalable, repeatable engineering practices.
- • You will operate in a high-velocity, AI-first environment where experimentation is expected and change is constant — leveraging AI coding assistants to accelerate development, rapidly prototyping integrations with new voice models, and continuously adapting to evolving customer needs and platform updates. This role demands comfort with ambiguity, a bias for action, and the thrill of solving gritty, real-world engineering problems over theoretical elegance.
- • You will grow into a strategic technical leader who doesn’t just implement technology — you shape how it evolves. By owning the feedback loop from deployment to product, you’ll influence Deepgram’s roadmap, help prioritize features that matter most to restaurant operators, and establish yourself as the voice of the customer inside the engineering organization — accelerating your impact far beyond individual projects.
🎯 Requirements
- • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience demonstrating strong software engineering fundamentals.
- • Proven ability to write, test, and debug production-quality code in languages such as Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, or Go, with hands-on experience integrating APIs, SDKs, webhooks, and cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP, or Azure).
- • Demonstrated customer obsession: ability to build deep technical credibility with both engineers and non-technical stakeholders, take ownership of customer outcomes, and persistently resolve complex issues under pressure.
- • High learning agility and comfort operating in ambiguous, fast-changing environments — you thrive when figuring things out from scratch and moving quickly without waiting for perfect specifications.
- • Experience working in embedded customer environments or as a technical liaison between vendor and enterprise teams, preferably in SaaS, AI, or voice technology contexts.
- • Familiarity with voice AI, speech-to-text (STT), text-to-speech (TTS), natural language processing (NLP), or conversational AI systems is strongly preferred.
🏖️ Benefits
- • Comprehensive holistic health benefits including medical, dental, vision, mental health support, and life/STD/LTD insurance plans.
- • Generous work-life blend perks: unlimited PTO, generous paid parental leave, flexible schedule, 12 paid US company holidays, quarterly personal productivity stipend, and one-time home office upgrade stipend.
- • Robust continuous learning and development support: annual education stipend, conference participation, AI enablement workshops, employee resource groups, and 401(k) plan with company match.
