- • This is a pivotal moment for design at Finch Legal. The complex systems we are developing for our internal legal operations teams, our valued injured clients, and our esteemed law firm partners must consistently deliver clarity, empathy, and efficiency. We are searching for a Founding Designer who possesses the vision, speed, and strategic thinking necessary to bring structure and elegance to what are often intricate and ambiguous operational challenges. By stepping into this role, you will be at the vanguard of AI-enabled legal services, actively contributing to the creation of a more equitable and accessible justice system for all Americans.
- • As our inaugural design hire, you will collaborate directly with our product, engineering, and leadership teams. Your mandate will be to conceptualize and build usable, aesthetically pleasing, and highly effective tools and experiences from the ground up. This position offers a unique opportunity for high ownership and significant autonomy, ideal for a designer eager to influence critical early-stage decisions and shape the future of our product and brand. You will be instrumental in defining the visual and interactive landscape of Finch Legal.
- • Your responsibilities will encompass leading the design efforts for a diverse range of critical initiatives:
- • **Internal Case Management Tools:** Design intuitive and powerful internal systems that empower our legal operations team, enabling them to work with superhuman efficiency and accuracy. These tools will be the backbone of our service delivery, ensuring seamless workflow management and exceptional client support.
- • **Law Firm Portals:** Develop sophisticated and user-friendly portals for our law firm partners. These platforms will provide them with unparalleled control, real-time transparency into case progress, and streamlined collaboration capabilities, fostering stronger partnerships.
- • **Client-Facing Experiences:** Craft empathetic and human-centered digital experiences that demystify the legal process for our clients. Your designs will aim to reduce anxiety, build trust, and ensure clients feel informed and supported throughout their journey with Finch Legal.
- • **Brand and Marketing Site:** Define and execute our public-facing brand identity and marketing website. This involves establishing a compelling visual language and narrative that clearly communicates Finch Legal's mission, values, and unique value proposition to the wider world.
- • **Emerging AI Surfaces:** Ensure that the outputs and interfaces of our AI-driven features are clear, actionable, and perfectly aligned with user needs and our brand standards. This involves translating complex AI capabilities into easily understandable and trustworthy user experiences.
- • Furthermore, you will play a crucial role in establishing the foundational elements of our design system at Finch Legal. This involves developing a cohesive and shared language of design principles, components, and guidelines that promotes consistency, quality, and craft across all our design, product, and engineering efforts. This system will be the bedrock for scalable and high-quality design execution as we grow.
- • You are likely an excellent fit for this role if you possess a strong track record of success in ambiguous, 0-to-1 environments, demonstrating an ability to design with both speed and deliberate intent. You have a keen eye for aesthetics and a proven ability to balance high-level taste with practical iteration, understanding precisely when to refine and when to push forward. As a systems thinker, you excel at untangling complex user flows and transforming them into intuitive and elegant solutions. You are comfortable and adept at flexing your skills across product design, brand identity, and visual design as the needs of the company evolve. Most importantly, you have a deep-seated passion for simplifying complicated systems and making them feel accessible and human for everyone.
🎯 Requirements
- • 4+ years of experience as a Founding Designer or 7+ years of experience as a Founding Design Lead, with a proven track record in 0-to-1 environments.
- • Demonstrated ability to thrive in ambiguous, fast-paced startup settings, balancing rapid iteration with a strong sense of design quality and intent.
- • Systems thinking capabilities with a proven ability to design intuitive solutions for complex operational workflows.
- • Proficiency across product, brand, and visual design disciplines, with the ability to flex as needed.
- • A strong portfolio showcasing impactful design work, particularly in B2B SaaS or complex operational platforms.
