Full Job Description
đź“‹ Description
- • Join Manukai, the ETH-Zurich spin-off that is redefining how metal-machining programs are written. As a Frontend Engineer you will own the visual layer of an AI copilot that turns decades of CNC production data into instant, optimal machining instructions. Every component you ship is seen daily by manufacturing engineers who rely on it to cut setup time, reduce scrap, and bring new parts to market faster.
- • You will be embedded in the core product team in Zurich (working fully remote from Romania) and partner with two senior frontend engineers and a UX designer who have already established a clean, component-driven React + TypeScript code-base. Your first mission is to extend this foundation: take pixel-perfect Figma specs and turn them into responsive, accessible, and blazing-fast UI modules that feel native in both web and Electron-wrapped desktop environments.
- • Expect to work with complex 3D data. Manukai ingests CAD models, tool-paths, and machine parameters, then visualizes them in interactive 3D previews so users can inspect, tweak, and validate AI-generated programs before they ever hit the shop floor. You will integrate Three.js / React-Three-Fiber scenes directly into the React component tree, ensuring smooth camera controls, real-time material removal simulation, and intuitive measurement overlays.
- • Reliability is non-negotiable. A single regression can stall a €500 k production line, so you will write exhaustive Cypress and Jest tests, set up automated visual regression pipelines, and champion TypeScript strictness across the board. You will also profile and optimize WebGL frame budgets so that even 30-million-triangle models remain interactive on mid-range laptops.
- • Collaboration is daily and hands-on. You will join sprint planning, review Python engineers’ API contracts, and negotiate data formats that balance frontend performance with backend simplicity. When a new feature calls for a custom shader or a new geometric algorithm, you will spike a proof-of-concept, document trade-offs, and shepherd the solution through peer review.
- • Beyond features, you will shape developer experience. Create Storybook stories for every new component, codify Tailwind design tokens, and maintain an Electron build pipeline that auto-updates silently for end-users. You will also contribute to an internal style-guide that keeps the growing engineering team aligned on accessibility, i18n, and theming.
- • Growth is built-in. Manukai is still early-stage, so your fingerprints will be on architectural decisions that last for years. Whether you want to dive deeper into computational geometry, explore machine-learning-assisted UI, or lead a small team, the roadmap is open and the mentorship is real.
- • Impact is tangible. Customers report 40 % reduction in CNC programming time within weeks of adoption. Your UI is the bridge between powerful algorithms and the machinist on the shop floor who just wants to press “Go” with confidence.
