- • Develop and maintain scalable backend systems using Ruby on Rails to support clinical and billing infrastructure critical to pediatric mental health services
- • Design and implement robust APIs and integrations with third-party systems including insurance providers, health platforms, and referral networks
- • Collaborate end-to-end on feature development from scoping with product and design teams through deployment to production
- • Write full-stack code across the Ruby on Rails backend and frontend UIs built with Turbo, Tailwind, and ViewComponent
- • Enhance user experiences by optionally augmenting frontend functionality with Stimulus or React where appropriate
- • Apply TypeScript where it improves type safety and maintainability, defaulting to JavaScript when not necessary
- • Leverage Hotwire Native to extend existing web infrastructure to mobile applications without duplicating logic
- • Lead and participate in architecture discussions to ensure the codebase remains clean, modular, and easy to navigate
- • Maintain high code quality through automated testing, pair programming, and rigorous code review practices
- • Own projects beyond just coding, including cross-functional coordination with clinical, marketing, and operations teams
- • Bring a systems-thinking mindset to data modeling, workflow automation, and internal tooling that supports behavioral health delivery
- • Contribute to defining and evolving engineering standards that prioritize simplicity, reliability, and developer experience
- • Focus on shipping fast by favoring proven technologies over experimental tools, ensuring long-term maintainability
- • Improve team capabilities by sharing knowledge, mentoring peers, and introducing thoughtful improvements to development practices
- • Work remotely across the United States with asynchronous and synchronous collaboration to support distributed team dynamics
- • Prioritize empathetic communication, transparent decision-making, and inclusive collaboration throughout all project phases
- • Balance deep individual contributions with collaborative problem-solving, adjusting between heads-down work and pairing based on project needs and energy
- • Contribute to the evolution of a codebase that is intentionally kept simple to reduce complexity and increase team velocity
- • Ensure all technical decisions align with the mission of improving access to high-quality mental health care for children, teens, and families
- • Maintain awareness of healthcare-specific workflows including insurance billing, clinical documentation, referrals, and patient data flows
- • Support the integration of clinical systems with internal platforms to enable seamless care coordination and reporting
- • Contribute to a culture of continuous learning through professional development and feedback-driven iteration
🎯 Requirements
- • Professional experience developing software primarily with Ruby on Rails, with familiarity in similar frameworks like Python + Django
- • Proven track record in full-stack development with strong emphasis on backend logic, API design, and system architecture
- • Experience building and maintaining integrations with third-party systems, particularly in healthcare or billing contexts
- • Demonstrated ability to own projects end-to-end, including cross-functional collaboration beyond engineering
- • Empathetic communication style and commitment to inclusive, thoughtful collaboration across departments
