Full Job Description

đź“‹ Description

  • • Shape the future of digital identity. As a Full-Stack Software Engineer (New Grad) at SpruceID, you will be embedded in a forward-deployed engineering squad that partners directly with state governments and public-sector agencies. Your code will power privacy-preserving credential systems that millions of residents rely on to access unemployment benefits, driver’s licenses, health records, and other critical services.
  • • Own features end-to-end. From the first customer discovery call to the final production rollout, you will design, build, test, and ship full-stack capabilities. Expect to touch RESTful APIs written in Rust or Go, React/TypeScript SPAs that meet WCAG 2.1 accessibility standards, mobile SDKs, and cloud-native infrastructure on AWS or GCP—all while keeping privacy and security front-of-mind.
  • • Learn from senior mentors. Every new grad is paired with a dedicated staff-level engineer who conducts weekly 1:1s, architecture reviews, and pair-programming sessions. You’ll also join a structured 90-day onboarding program that covers our stack (Rust, Go, React, Postgres, Terraform, Kubernetes), open identity standards (W3C Verifiable Credentials, DIF DIDComm, IETF OAuth 2.1), and public-sector compliance regimes (FedRAMP, SOC 2, CJIS).
  • • Translate policy into product. Sit in on workshops with policy analysts, UX researchers, and elected officials to understand how legislation like REAL ID or mDL affects technical design. You’ll then translate those requirements into user stories, threat models, and sprint plans that the broader engineering team can execute.
  • • Champion inclusive design. Accessibility isn’t an afterthought—our customers serve every resident, regardless of ability. You’ll write semantic HTML, leverage screen-reader-friendly ARIA roles, and run usability tests with assistive-technology users to ensure no one is left behind.
  • • Contribute to open source. SpruceID maintains popular open-source libraries such as DIDKit and Rebase. You’ll file issues, open pull requests, and engage with the global identity community, building a public portfolio that accelerates your career.
  • • Participate in customer deployments. Travel (remote or occasional on-site) with customer success teams to staging and production environments. You’ll monitor dashboards, lead incident post-mortems, and iterate rapidly based on real-world telemetry and user feedback.
  • • Grow your leadership voice. Within 12–18 months, high-performing engineers are encouraged to become technical leads on sub-projects, mentor the next cohort of interns, and present at conferences like RSA, Identiverse, or IETF hackathons.
  • • Work in a remote-first culture. We default to asynchronous communication via GitHub, Slack, and Notion, but we also carve out “core hours” (11 am–3 pm ET) for pairing and customer calls. Quarterly off-sites in cities like Denver or Washington, D.C. foster deeper relationships and strategic alignment.
  • • Make a civic impact. The systems you ship reduce fraud in unemployment insurance, enable veterans to prove eligibility for benefits with a single QR code, and let residents control who sees their vaccination records. Your engineering craft directly strengthens the social safety net.

🎯 Requirements

  • • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field (December 2023–June 2024 graduates welcome)
  • • Demonstrated experience (coursework, internships, or personal projects) in backend development using a statically typed language such as Rust, Go, C++, or Java
  • • Familiarity with modern web frontends—React, TypeScript, or equivalent—and a commitment to writing accessible, responsive UIs
  • • Strong written and verbal communication skills; comfortable translating technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders
  • • U.S. work authorization without need for visa sponsorship (TN visa holders welcome)

🏖️ Benefits

  • • Competitive base salary of $110,000–$150,000 plus performance bonuses and equity
  • • Fully remote work environment with $1,500 home-office stipend and $500 annual travel budget for conferences or team meetups
  • • Comprehensive benefits package: medical, dental, vision, 401(k) with 4% match, and 12 weeks paid parental leave
  • • Annual $2,000 professional-development fund for courses, certifications, or conferences of your choice
  • • Four-day “summer Fridays” from Memorial Day to Labor Day and flexible PTO policy (minimum 15 days, no cap)
