- • As a Full Stack Software Engineer on the Video team at Substack, you will build and enhance core product features including live streaming, video/audio recording, podcasting, uploading, clipping, and other video experiences that empower creators to connect with their audiences.
- • You will work across the full stack — from APIs and backend services (Node.js/Express, Postgres) to frontend UI (React/TypeScript) — developing, testing, and iterating on product concepts in close collaboration with designers, product managers, and fellow engineers.
- • Substack is building a new economic engine for culture through direct subscription-based publishing, enabling writers and creators to monetize their work independently, free from legacy media gatekeepers and ad-driven social platforms.
- • You will have the opportunity to own end-to-end features, collaborate directly with users to solve real problems, contribute to AI-powered tooling, and grow your expertise in modern web technologies while shaping the future of independent media.
🎯 Requirements
- • 4+ years of non-internship professional full stack web software development using Node.js
- • Degree in Computer Science or equivalent industry experience
- • Proficiency with TypeScript, React, and Postgres (or ability to learn quickly)
- • Experience or interest in video processing frameworks such as FFmpeg
- • Familiarity with workflow systems like Temporal (advantageous)
- • Proficiency with Python (advantageous)
