- • As a Functional Specialist PIP in the Midlands, you will conduct assessments for individuals applying for disability benefits, using your clinical background to evaluate how health conditions impact daily life and support fair decision-making by the Department for Work and Pensions.
- • Your day-to-day responsibilities include carrying out initial reviews via telephone, video, or in-person assessments, observing claimants’ functional abilities, analysing clinical evidence, and producing detailed 3,000–4,000-word reports—up to three per day—to ensure sufficient justification for benefit decisions.
- • You will join Capita Health Assessment Advisory Service (HAAS), a trusted provider delivering disability assessments on behalf of UK government departments, with a mission to improve access to support for vulnerable individuals through fair, accurate, and compassionate evaluations.
- • This role offers the opportunity to transition from direct patient care into a meaningful assessment-focused career, where you will develop specialised skills in functional assessment, report writing, and clinical reasoning, while receiving structured training and ongoing professional development.
🎯 Requirements
- • Minimum one year of post-registration experience as a registered nurse (RMN, RNLD, RGN), occupational therapist, physiotherapist, or paramedic
- • Full registration with a relevant UK regulatory body (NMC, HCPC or equivalent) with no restrictions and a valid PIN
- • Excellent observational and communication skills, including the ability to listen actively, empathise, and gather detailed information during assessments
- • Proficiency in using IT systems and Microsoft Office, including remote access to platforms, to manage assessments and documentation
- • A valid UK driving licence or reliable access to travel to your nearest assessment centre for in-person evaluations on a rotational basis

- • Competitive starting salary of £39,500, increasing to £40,500 upon achieving DWP approval, with eligibility for a discretionary bonus of 10% of base salary based on performance and quality
