Full Job Description
đź“‹ Description
- • Own the end-to-end growth strategy for Ramp’s startup segment, with the goal of making Ramp the default financial platform for 90%+ of newly incorporated U.S. startups.
- • Serve as the General Manager with full P&L ownership for the startup vertical, accountable for acquisition, product strategy, onboarding, pricing, incentives, positioning, and lifecycle metrics.
- • Define how Ramp positions itself to brand-new founders versus Series B CFOs, crafting messaging and comparison narratives against competitors like Brex, Mercury, and Every.
- • Build and execute a full acquisition motion rooted in physical presence: attend and host founder dinners, demo days, accelerator events, and angel investor gatherings in San Francisco.
- • Develop and manage partnerships with top accelerators (e.g., YC, Techstars), incubators, and founder networks to embed Ramp into the earliest stages of company formation.
- • Lead product strategy for startups by identifying day-zero needs, advocating for product changes with the Product team, and removing friction from incorporation-to-card activation.
- • Design and optimize pricing and incentive structures—including partner credits, founder perks, and referral programs—to make Ramp the automatic choice at incorporation.
- • Own the entire customer journey from incorporation to active card usage, ensuring the fastest, most seamless onboarding experience in the market.
- • Be the primary face of Ramp within the startup community: speak at events, host intimate gatherings, and be the trusted voice founders associate with Ramp’s startup offering.
- • Build and instrument a data-driven funnel from incorporation to activation, tracking a single, clear metric that defines success for the segment.
- • Leverage AI-native workflows by integrating tools like Claude or equivalent agents into daily operations to automate tasks, improve decision-making, and scale impact.
- • Act as the critical bridge between Ramp’s internal teams (Product, Marketing, Engineering) and the external startup ecosystem, translating founder needs into product requirements and growth tactics.
- • Maintain deep, active engagement with the San Francisco startup scene—knowing emerging founders, funds, and trends before they become visible to the broader market.
- • Operate without a predefined playbook; build the systems, partnerships, and processes from scratch to achieve an ambitious, unmet market goal.
- • Work in-person daily in San Francisco, participating in physical community events, networking, and relationship-building that cannot be replicated remotely.
- • Report directly to the VP of Growth and run the startup segment as its own standalone business with full autonomy and accountability.
🎯 Requirements
- • Have started a company or operated at the founding-team level of an early startup, with firsthand experience of the incorporation-to-traction journey
- • Be deeply and currently embedded in the U.S. startup community, including accelerators, angels, founder networks, and the San Francisco social scene
- • Have 5+ years of experience across founding, growth, GTM, or general management, with proven ability to own an outcome end-to-end
- • Demonstrate a GM instinct: think in P&L terms, make tradeoffs across product, pricing, and marketing, and own a single high-stakes metric without hand-holding
- • Show demonstrable AI fluency: have built or adopted specific AI tools or workflows that materially changed your output
- • Live in or be willing to relocate to San Francisco and be physically present in the local startup ecosystem
