Full Job Description
đź“‹ Description
- • Design, select, and integrate off-the-shelf hardware components—including compute modules, ultra-high-definition 360-degree cameras, radios, power systems, and sensors—into the Pano Station platform for long-term, autonomous deployment in extreme outdoor environments.
- • Analyze component datasheets to evaluate electrical, thermal, and mechanical limits, ensuring integrated subsystems operate reliably within specified boundaries across power, signal integrity, and environmental conditions.
- • Own end-to-end hardware development lifecycle phases from concept through production, including prototype (PROTO), engineering validation test (EVT), design validation test (DVT), and production validation test (PVT) stages.
- • Author and execute comprehensive test plans for functional verification, environmental performance, long-term reliability, and regulatory compliance (FCC, safety, cellular certification).
- • Conduct stress and margin testing to identify failure thresholds and operational boundaries under harsh conditions, ensuring system reliability for 5+ years of unattended operation on remote mountaintops.
- • Lead hardware triage and root cause analysis (RCA) for failures across engineering builds, production runs, and field deployments, using lab instrumentation such as oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, power analyzers, thermal cameras, and protocol analyzers.
- • Document findings in structured RCA reports and communicate risks, failure mechanisms, and corrective actions clearly to cross-functional engineering, software, and operations teams.
- • Define production acceptance criteria and transfer validated test methodologies, scripts, and specifications to contract manufacturers to ensure consistent quality and yield during mass production.
- • Support engineering change orders (ECOs) for component end-of-life transitions, supply chain disruptions, and post-launch sustaining engineering issues.
- • Collaborate with firmware, software, and mechanical teams to resolve integration issues between hardware, sensors, wireless modules, and AI-driven software systems.
- • Evaluate components for durability in harsh environments, including wide temperature ranges, high humidity, UV exposure, vibration, and electrical noise common in wildfire-prone regions.
- • Contribute to the continuous improvement of hardware reliability by applying principles of derating, environmental stress screening, and accelerated life testing where applicable.
- • Assist in validating camera system performance, including ISP pipeline interactions and vision hardware behavior, to ensure optimal image quality for AI-based fire detection.
- • Work with LTE/Wi-Fi wireless modules and perform RF-adjacent debugging to ensure robust communication link reliability in remote, signal-challenged terrain.
- • Automate validation and stress tests using Python or equivalent scripting languages to verify hardware behavior under sustained operational loads and environmental extremes.
- • Maintain direct accountability for subsystem performance and reliability from initial concept through field deployment and sustained operations, with no handoff to separate teams.
- • Participate in cross-functional NPI gate reviews and contribute technical input to product roadmap decisions based on hardware constraints and field feedback.
- • Represent hardware engineering in customer-facing technical discussions when field issues require deep system-level understanding.
🎯 Requirements
- • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or closely related engineering discipline
- • 5+ years of professional hardware engineering experience with ownership across multiple phases of the product development lifecycle
- • Strong EE fundamentals: datasheet analysis, electrical specification evaluation, and system-level reasoning about power, signal integrity, and thermal behavior
- • Demonstrated ability to debug and root-cause hardware issues at the system and integration level using standard lab equipment
- • Hands-on NPI experience—has taken hardware through multiple full EVT-to-PVT cycles
- • Clear written and verbal communication; able to write structured RCA reports and articulate risk to cross-functional stakeholders
🏖️ Benefits
- • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage
- • Matching 401(k) plan
- • Flexible paid time off
- • Stock options for full-time employees
