📋 Description

• As Head of Accounting and Tax at n8n GmbH, you will build the accounting and tax function from the ground up, transforming an externally managed bookkeeping operation into a scalable, AI-augmented finance function capable of supporting the company through rapid growth and a potential IPO. This is a transformation role requiring end-to-end ownership of multi-entity accounting, tax compliance, systems implementation, and team leadership across Germany, the US, and the UK.
• You will own end-to-end accounting operations including AP, AR, GL, fixed assets, accruals, and deferrals; lead the insourcing of accounting from an external bookkeeper within the first three months; drive a reliable monthly close targeting under five days; manage group consolidation including intercompany eliminations and FX translation; and own the IFRS conversion roadmap targeting 2027, including HGB-to-IFRS gap analysis and audit coordination.
• You will design a tax-efficient group structure, ensure VAT/GST and indirect tax compliance, establish transfer pricing frameworks, set up accounting operations for UK and US entities, manage external tax and audit advisors, and build an internal control framework aligned with audit readiness and future capital markets requirements.
• You will co-lead ERP evaluation and implementation, drive automation targeting 50%+ of routine processes within 12 months, champion AI adoption in accounting workflows, lead and develop a team of accountants with a builder-coach mindset, and partner closely with FP&A, RevOps, People, and Legal on cross-functional initiatives.
• You will report directly to the VP Finance and Legal, shaping board-level reporting and capital markets readiness; build and scale a high-performing team as the Finance function grows from 8 to 16 people by 2026; and prepare the accounting, tax, and control environment for future milestones including a potential IPO, all within n8n’s AI-native, builder-first culture.
• You will gain deep experience in scaling a finance function in a high-growth SaaS environment, leading an IFRS conversion, implementing a new ERP, and integrating AI into core accounting processes—positioning you as a strategic finance leader ready for CFO-track responsibilities in a fast-scaling, innovative technology company.

🎯 Requirements

• Senior accounting leadership in high-growth SaaS with 8+ years of progressive experience, including 3+ years in B2B SaaS with multi-entity, multi-currency operations, and proven ability to build or significantly scale an accounting function from the ground up.
• Strong IFRS and SaaS revenue expertise, including ASC 606/IFRS 15, recurring billing, intercompany accounting, and group consolidation; experience with IFRS conversion or dual-GAAP environment is a strong signal.
• Hands-on experience with German GAAP (HGB) financial statement preparation and German tax compliance (VAT, corporate tax, trade tax), plus ability to manage external advisors and auditors across multiple jurisdictions.
• Proven process and control builder with a track record of designing scalable accounting processes, accelerating close cycles, and raising quality in fast-growing, under-documented environments without adding bureaucracy.
• Demonstrated AI and automation fluency—actively using LLMs, automation platforms, or intelligent workflows in daily work to improve accuracy, accelerate output, or reduce manual effort, not just theoretical interest.
• Strong leadership and communication skills in English, with ability to work effectively in distributed, async-first, cross-border teams and translate accounting complexity into clear business language for leadership and stakeholders.
