📋 Description

• Own the end-to-end AI roadmap and execution rhythm across Swarmer’s autonomy, perception, and data stack including LMT, ATR, and VISNAV systems.
• Consolidate fragmented AI/ML initiatives into a single coherent roadmap with clear owners, priorities, and delivery accountability tied to product and combat-ops objectives.
• Align all AI initiatives with real-world field constraints, combat operational priorities, and defense technology requirements.
• Build and enforce strong operating processes for planning, prioritization, ownership, quality assurance, metrics tracking, and quarterly delivery cycles.
• Ruthlessly prioritize initiatives: say no to low-impact work, surface conflicting demands, and halt efforts that do not advance core mission goals.
• Architect and integrate the data function into the broader AI organization to ensure data quality, pipeline reliability, and model training efficiency.
• Improve team velocity through tooling, automation, and AI-assisted engineering workflows, while contributing hands-on where technical depth is required.
• Make high-level technical decisions and supervise architectural choices made by senior leads in computer vision, robotics, autonomy, and system integration.
• Lead, hire, and develop a high-performing AI team including senior individual contributors, ensuring accountability, performance management, and career growth.
• Serve as the primary bridge between the CEO and the AI team, translating strategic vision into executable plans and operational reality.
• Ensure all AI systems are designed for edge deployment on embedded platforms such as Jetson and Qualcomm, not just cloud environments.
• Apply strong fundamentals in math and physics to reason about physical systems — including wind, ballistics, sensor behavior, and drone dynamics — before proposing ML solutions.
• Be a power user of AI engineering tools like Codex, Claude Code, Cursor, or equivalent, and drive adoption of these tools across the entire engineering team.
• Maintain a bias for shipped outcomes over perfectionism, and be judged on real-world deployment success, not theoretical models.
• Operate in a high-stakes defense-tech environment where system failures have direct, real-world consequences for national security.
• Contribute to shaping the core autonomy and perception systems that power Ukraine’s defense drone ecosystem and its international expansion.
• Work with cutting-edge technologies at the intersection of AI, robotics, and embedded systems under live operational conditions.

🎯 Requirements

• 5+ years in a managerial role leading technical teams
• Proven experience leading AI/ML, computer vision, perception, or autonomy teams
• Hands-on technical background in AI/ML, computer vision, robotics, autonomy, or related fields
• Strong people management skills: hiring, team structure, accountability, performance management, and leadership of senior ICs
• Ability to supervise technical decisions and challenge senior engineers without needing to act as the CTO
• Experience deploying models at the edge / on embedded platforms (e.g., Jetson, Qualcomm)
