- • The Head of Engineering is a newly created leadership role at Obsidian Systems Inc., a fast-growing, founder-led software company with a global remote team, designed to scale engineering from 60 to 100+ people as the company enters its next stage of growth.
- • The role involves owning people leadership, engineer development, and team accountability, including performance management, hiring, onboarding, coaching, and building a rotation program to grow engineers across projects and lines of business.
- • Obsidian Systems is a consulting and services-plus-product company with a strong engineering culture rooted in functional programming principles, emphasizing composability, clarity, and trust in a remote-first, low-ego environment.
- • The Head of Engineering will champion engineering methodology and cultural values, own AI usage policy and internal security practices, oversee incident and change management, mitigate technical risk, and serve as the primary cross-departmental point of engagement for engineering, while developing leaders and scaling a best-in-class engineering culture.
🎯 Requirements
- • Proven experience leading and scaling engineering teams in a high-growth environment, including managing senior individual contributors and technical leaders at scale
- • A genuine appreciation for functional programming principles and the ability to advocate for its philosophy without requiring hands-on coding in Haskell
- • A track record of building engineering culture by helping teams internalize values and ways of working to create a best-in-class environment
- • Strong instincts around coaching, performance management, and developing leaders who are new to management, including knowing when to push and when to listen
- • Experience in a consulting or services-plus-product environment, or comfort operating across multiple business models
- • Demonstrated ability to partner with deep technical experts without overstepping or underdelivering
- • Comfort operating in a remote-first, global, low-ego environment where directness and trust are valued
- • Comfort with ambiguity and the ability to build structure as you go
