Full Job Description
đź“‹ Description
- • Take full ownership of the engineering operating system within the first three months, including tools, vendor contracts, on-call staffing, and platform support to prevent escalations to the CTO and eliminate delays caused by broken tooling or unclear processes.
- • Audit and overhaul the end-to-end engineering hiring process to improve interviewer calibration, role consistency, and onboarding, with measurable reductions in time-to-hire and time-to-first-meaningful-contribution.
- • Own TLT (Tech Leadership Team) facilitation and drive consistency across engineering managers, ensuring sessions result in concrete decisions, aligned shared practices, and resolution of cross-EM escalations below the CTO level within six months.
- • Build and maintain the engineering progression framework and performance data infrastructure, developing a sharp draft within three months and evolving it into a live, Tech 2.0-aligned system with salary bands agreed upon by HR and engineering managers for active use in performance conversations.
- • Drive cultural and strategic change through the rollout of Tech 2.0, owning the implementation plan, adoption tracking, and establishing rituals that embed change across the organization over an 18-month horizon.
- • Operate without formal authority by leveraging credibility and relationships to influence senior engineers and engineering managers, ensuring alignment and execution across decentralized teams.
- • Apply systems thinking to simplify complex operational processes, removing friction while preserving essential functions and outcomes.
- • Communicate with high signal-to-noise clarity, translating strategic direction into operational reality and surfacing the right information at the appropriate organizational level, both verbally and in writing.
- • Demonstrate a passion for AI and actively experiment with new tools to enhance creativity, decision-making, and execution within engineering operations.
- • Support a high-performing, fast-moving team by maintaining high standards, providing direct feedback, and fostering continuous personal and professional growth across the engineering organization.
- • Ensure engineering processes scale effectively with the organization’s growth, maintaining operational integrity as Kognity expands its global footprint across 120+ countries.
- • Collaborate closely with HR to align engineering progression frameworks and salary bands, ensuring consistency between performance evaluation systems and compensation structures.
- • Maintain accountability for outcomes, ensuring that operational improvements translate into tangible gains in engineer productivity, retention, and satisfaction.
- • Lead by example in a culture of ownership and high expectations, where initiative, decision-making, and results are prioritized over hierarchy or process for process’s sake.
- • Contribute to a global, diverse engineering team by upholding Kognity’s commitment to inclusion and welcoming individuals of all backgrounds, experiences, and abilities.
🎯 Requirements
- • Background as a senior, principal, or staff engineer with subsequent experience in engineering leadership or management, ideally including people management in a scaling product organization.
- • Proven ability to drive change without formal authority, influencing senior engineers and engineering managers through credibility and relationships.
- • Strong systems thinking with a bias for simplification, capable of reducing friction in complex operational processes without sacrificing essential outcomes.
- • High signal-to-noise communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to translate strategic direction into operational reality.
- • Passion for AI and a drive to experiment with new tools to enhance creativity, decisions, and execution.
🏖️ Benefits
- • Work on problems that directly influence the lives of teachers and students in over 100 countries.
- • High ownership and accountability with early responsibility and real impact on organizational outcomes.
- • Collaborate with a fast-moving, high-performing global team with high standards and direct feedback.
- • Continuous personal and professional growth supported as a baseline expectation across the organization.
