- • The Health Coach II role at Government Employees Health Association, Inc. (G.E.H.A) is a mission-driven position dedicated to empowering federal employees, retirees, and their families to achieve optimal health and well-being through evidence-based, telephonic, and digital health coaching. As a nonprofit leader in federal health benefits since 1937, G.E.H.A relies on coaches like this one to deliver personalized, whole-person care that supports sustainable lifestyle changes, improves quality of life, and reduces long-term health risks for millions of members nationwide.
- • Day-to-day responsibilities include conducting initial member assessments using validated health risk tools, applying motivational interviewing and transtheoretical models to elicit intrinsic motivation and set collaborative goals, documenting all interactions in compliance with HIPAA and accreditation standards, reviewing clinical data (biomarkers, lab results, claims history) to tailor education and referrals, coordinating care with multidisciplinary teams, designing and delivering evidence-based well-being content (presentations, guides, digital resources), and proactively outreaching to members needing additional support. Coaches also assist members in navigating GEHA benefits, making referrals to specialty programs, and maintaining cultural humility and respect for diverse populations across race, ethnicity, gender identity, language, and health status.
- • The Health and Well-Being team operates within G.E.H.A’s broader mission to foster a culture of wellness for both members and employees, emphasizing compassion, integrity, and innovation. Coaches collaborate closely with Quality, Medical Management, and Proactive Care Management teams to align coaching initiatives with organizational health outcomes and population health strategies. This role is ideal for professionals passionate about preventive care, behavior change science, and making a tangible difference in the lives of those who serve our nation.
- • In this role, the coach will deepen expertise in evidence-based coaching methodologies, gain experience in virtual care delivery and digital health tools, strengthen skills in data-informed coaching (using claims and biomarker insights), and develop leadership abilities through content creation and cross-functional collaboration. There is clear pathways for growth into senior coaching, program coordination, or wellness leadership roles within G.E.H.A, supported by tuition assistance, performance-based incentives, and a commitment to internal mobility and professional development.
