- • Design and execute physical experiments to validate the performance of new hardware designs and track analytical results for product improvement.
- • Develop and maintain automated test applications and graphical user interfaces (GUIs) for production environments, hardware validation, and reliability testing using Python or C#/WPF.
- • Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, and software engineering teams to support testing across the entire product development lifecycle.
- • Build custom test systems using embedded hardware platforms such as Arduino and integrate software with physical instrumentation and custom firmware.
- • Design operator-friendly desktop or web-based user interfaces for running, monitoring, and controlling hardware tests.
- • Architect and implement data visualization tools and automated test result reporting systems to enable data-driven decision-making.
- • Create comprehensive documentation and standardized methodologies for test tools and procedures to ensure team-wide adoption and consistency.
- • Design, build, and deploy custom physical test fixtures and jigs for both R&D and manufacturing environments, including specification of sensors and mechanical interfaces.
- • Perform hands-on root cause analysis and debug of electrical and mechanical failures in test systems and products down to the component or PCB level.
- • Conduct PCB bring-up, debug, and rework activities as part of hardware validation and failure analysis.
- • Support manufacturing processes with test system deployment and validation, including travel to production facilities in Asia as needed.
- • Ensure all test systems meet high-volume consumer product standards and are scalable for mass production.
- • Work in a fast-paced, high-intensity environment focused on delivering flawless hardware performance with obsessive attention to detail.
- • Operate from the San Francisco office five days per week or from the Boulder/Denver area, with up to 20% travel required.
🎯 Requirements
- • 5+ years of hardware/software development experience with a focus on integrated systems
- • Track record of shipping high-volume consumer products, including manufacturing support in Asia and willingness to travel to China
- • Experience with Python or C#/WPF for developing test GUIs
- • Experience with git, GitHub, command line scripting tools, Homebrew (macOS), and apt (Linux)
- • Hands-on experience soldering, wiring, and debugging electronic circuits
- • Familiarity with hardware communication protocols such as I2C and SPI
- • Proven experience with PCB bring-up, debug, and rework
- • BSEE, BSCE, BSCS, BSME or equivalent; MS preferred
