This paid, full-time opportunity, running from May 26, 2026, through August 7, 2026, offers a unique chance to gain invaluable, hands-on experience in the critical field of information security within a reputable financial services organization.
- • As an intern, you will work under the guidance and supervision of experienced information security professionals, contributing to a team responsible for the technical analysis, guidance, consulting, and configuration of essential information security tooling, operations, and ongoing projects. Your role will be instrumental in supporting both tactical and strategic initiatives that bolster Penn Mutual's information security posture.
- • This is a fully remote position, providing the flexibility to work from anywhere in the United States. The company will supply all necessary equipment to ensure you have a productive and seamless remote work experience. You will be expected to actively participate in a virtual environment, utilizing webcams and engaging verbally or through reactions to foster collaboration and communication.
- • Key responsibilities will include assisting team members with the risk analysis of identified security issues or events, helping to monitor the effectiveness of established security practices, and providing crucial support for vulnerability remediation efforts. You will also have the opportunity to liaise with and support Security Operations Center (SOC) analysts under their direction, gaining insight into real-time security monitoring and incident response.
- • Depending on team needs and your development, you may be required to participate in an on-call rotation, offering exposure to the operational demands of information security. Furthermore, you will assist with proof-of-concepts or the implementation of new security tooling, always with clear direction and supervision, allowing you to explore and understand cutting-edge security technologies.
- • A significant part of your role will involve reviewing, analyzing, and responding to phishing submissions and alerts, a vital function in protecting the organization from cyber threats. You will also support the creation of essential documentation, reports, and tracking mechanisms related to various security initiatives as assigned, honing your analytical and reporting skills.
- • This internship is designed to foster significant learning and skill development. You will gain exposure to a wide range of information security practices, from threat detection and analysis to risk management and security control implementation. The experience will provide a solid foundation for a career in cybersecurity, equipping you with practical knowledge and a deeper understanding of the challenges and solutions in protecting sensitive data and systems.
- • The internship is structured to provide a comprehensive overview of information security engineering within a large, established company. You will learn about industry best practices, regulatory compliance considerations, and the importance of a robust security framework in the financial sector. Your contributions will be valued, and you will be an integral part of the team's success in maintaining a secure environment for Penn Mutual and its clients.
- • This role is ideal for a student who is proactive, detail-oriented, and eager to learn. You will have the chance to apply theoretical knowledge gained from your studies to real-world scenarios, developing critical thinking and problem-solving abilities. The remote nature of the internship also cultivates essential skills in virtual collaboration, self-management, and effective digital communication, which are increasingly vital in today's professional landscape.
- • By the end of this internship, you will have a well-rounded understanding of information security engineering principles and practices, a clearer vision for your future career path, and a valuable addition to your resume. You will have had the opportunity to work with advanced security tools and methodologies, interact with seasoned professionals, and contribute meaningfully to the security of a Fortune 500 company.
- • Penn Mutual is committed to fostering a diverse and inclusive work environment. As an intern, you will be part of a team that values different perspectives and experiences, contributing to a culture of innovation and continuous improvement. This internship is more than just a summer job; it's an investment in your professional growth and a stepping stone towards a successful career in information security.
- • The internship offers a competitive hourly wage of $30, ensuring that your hard work and dedication are recognized and rewarded. This financial compensation, combined with the extensive learning opportunities and professional development, makes this a highly attractive internship for aspiring information security professionals.
- • You will be exposed to various computing environments, including cloud platforms like AWS and operating systems such as Microsoft Windows, broadening your technical skillset. Understanding fundamental networking and application concepts, like the OSI model, and common vulnerabilities will be a core part of your learning journey.
- • The role encourages embracing AI fluency, integrating AI tools and technologies to enhance performance, decision-making, and innovation, preparing you for the future of the cybersecurity landscape. You will also develop basic problem-solving skills for computer-related issues and gain exposure to Identity and Access Management (IAM) principles, which are fundamental to security.
- • Furthermore, you will have opportunities to develop basic coding and/or scripting capabilities, a highly sought-after skill in the field. The emphasis on strong written and verbal communication skills, coupled with the ability to work effectively in a fully remote team, ensures you develop the soft skills necessary for success in any professional setting.
