• • The Commerce Foundations team is the bedrock of this engine, focusing on the 'how' behind our product offerings. We are responsible for architecting and building the scalable, resilient, and extensible systems that underpin critical travel commerce functions such as booking flows, search orchestration, and checkout journeys. These foundational elements are crucial for powering our global operations across various verticals.
• • As a Staff Engineer on the Commerce Foundations team, your role transcends typical feature development. You will be instrumental in architecting the core patterns and models that enable our entire engineering organization to achieve significant scale and maintain high performance.
• • You will play a pivotal role in shaping the architectural strategy for our systems, focusing on designing robust underlying patterns for complex booking flows, checkout processes, and multi-tenant configurations. This involves looking beyond immediate needs to establish long-term architectural vision.
• • Technical stewardship is a key aspect of this position. You will define the 'North Star' architecture for our distributed systems, primarily written in Scala. This includes ensuring that our systems are not only scalable but also maintainable and adhere to best practices, guiding our evolution towards global reach.
• • A significant focus will be on achieving multi-tenant excellence. You will lead the evolution of our platform towards a 'configuration over customization' model. This strategic shift aims to enable seamless deployment for our partners, requiring minimal to zero manual technical intervention, thereby enhancing efficiency and speed to market.
• • You will act as a key influencer and mentor within the engineering organization. This involves raising the technical bar through conducting in-depth design reviews, mentoring senior engineers, and actively fostering a culture of high ownership and asynchronous decision-making, promoting efficiency and collaboration.
• • Your daily responsibilities will include architectural sovereignty, where you lead the design, build, and operation of API and full-stack solutions that serve as the definitive 'source of truth' for travel commerce data across all HTS partners.
• • You will be tasked with systemic improvement, proactively identifying and resolving engineering bottlenecks within the codebase or infrastructure that could impede scalability or performance.
• • High-alignment leadership is expected, requiring you to operate with a high degree of autonomy. You will collaborate closely with designers and Product Managers to ensure alignment on complex technical roadmaps, minimizing reliance on constant meetings and promoting efficient communication.
• • You will champion asynchronous excellence, driving decision-making processes through high-quality documentation and effective asynchronous communication, thriving in a low-meeting, high-alignment work environment.
• • Our technology stack is modern and robust, featuring backend services written in Scala that leverage functional programming patterns for high concurrency, type safety, and reliability. We are native to Google Cloud Platform (GCP), utilizing services like GKE, Pub/Sub, and Cloud Spanner to power our resilient, multi-tenant architecture.
