Full Job Description

šŸ“‹ Description

  • • As an Insurance Compliance Manager at Safelease Inc., you will serve as the central authority ensuring all insurance operations adhere to state and federal regulations across 50 states, directly enabling the company’s mission to innovate in P&C insurance while maintaining full regulatory integrity and operational trust.
  • • You will own surplus lines compliance by accurately and timely filing taxes, fees, and reports at both state and federal levels, ensuring financial and legal adherence without delays or errors that could jeopardize licensing or market access.
  • • You will manage and maintain agency and producer licenses across multiple jurisdictions, proactively tracking renewals, expirations, and jurisdictional requirements to prevent lapses and ensure continuous, compliant producer activity.
  • • You will design, implement, and continuously improve scalable compliance workflows and training programs that align with Safelease’s rapid growth, embedding compliance into product development, go-to-market strategies, and operational processes.
  • • You will conduct regular internal audits, maintain meticulous documentation, and produce audit-ready reports for leadership and regulators, ensuring transparency and readiness for external scrutiny at any time.
  • • You will monitor evolving regulatory landscapes, interpret changes in insurance law, and proactively advise cross-functional teams (Ops, Finance, GTM, Product) on implications, enabling the company to stay ahead of compliance risks.
  • • You will collaborate closely with carrier and vendor partners to ensure their practices align with Safelease’s compliance standards, fostering trusted, audit-resistant relationships that support seamless operations.
  • • You will act as a compliance educator and advisor across the organization, translating complex regulatory requirements into clear, actionable guidance for non-legal teams, promoting a culture of compliance ownership.
  • • You will operate with high autonomy and impact in a fast-growing, profitable startup environment where your work directly influences product speed, market expansion, and customer trust — offering significant professional growth in insurance compliance leadership.

šŸŽÆ Requirements

  • • 3+ years of experience in property and casualty (P&C) insurance compliance, with demonstrated expertise in surplus lines licensing, reporting, and tax filings across multiple states.
  • • Proven ability to navigate and interpret complex state-by-state insurance regulations and licensing processes, including surplus lines stamping office requirements and NAIC guidelines.
  • • Exceptional attention to detail, organizational skills, and experience building compliance processes from scratch or significantly improving existing ones.
  • • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to explain technical compliance concepts clearly to non-experts and drive alignment across Ops, Finance, GTM, and Product teams.
  • • Proactive mindset with a track record of identifying regulatory risks early and initiating preventive actions, balanced with the judgment to know when to escalate or collaborate.
  • • Willingness to undergo initial training in Austin (hybrid or remote after onboarding), with flexibility to work remotely thereafter.

šŸ–ļø Benefits

  • • Competitive salary and equity participation in a profitable, fast-growing insurance technology company with over 100% annual growth.
  • • Unlimited PTO and flexible work arrangements, including the option to work fully remote after an initial onboarding period in Austin.
  • • Comprehensive health benefits package (medical, dental, vision) and access to wellness resources supporting employee well-being.
  • • Opportunity to work with a high-caliber, low-ego team of seasoned professionals who value expertise, initiative, and collaborative problem-solving.
  • • Exposure to end-to-end insurance operations (product design, underwriting, distribution, and capital backing) in a unique full-stack insurance model.
  • • Professional development through involvement in scaling compliance infrastructure during rapid growth, building leadership and strategic impact.
