📋 Description

• This is a full-time, remote Summer Internship based anywhere in the United States or Canada, offering a unique opportunity to join Calix’s award-winning legal team in the Intellectual Property/Products department. The 90-day program is designed to provide hands-on experience in IP law, artificial intelligence, product-related legal matters, and litigation support, making it ideal for law students passionate about technology-driven innovation and legal strategy.
• Day-to-day responsibilities include assisting with the creation and updating of patent and trademark policies, identifying and reviewing patentable inventions, conducting patent analysis, supporting AI functionality reviews, and contributing to contract negotiations where IP or AI issues are involved. The intern will also assist with litigation and indemnification matters, research legal and regulatory developments, prepare summaries for internal teams, and collaborate closely with in-house attorneys, outside counsel, engineering, and business units.
• The Calix Legal team is known for its innovative approach to protecting intellectual property in a fast-evolving tech landscape, particularly in broadband, AI, and networking solutions. As part of an award-winning internship program, the intern will gain exposure to cross-functional collaboration between legal, engineering, and product teams, experiencing how legal strategy enables innovation and market competitiveness in a global technology company.
• Through this role, the intern will develop practical skills in IP portfolio management, legal research, technical contract review, and AI-related legal risk assessment. They will gain insight into how legal functions support product development and innovation in a regulated, tech-intensive industry, building a strong foundation for a career in IP law, technology law, or corporate counsel roles with a focus on emerging technologies.

🎯 Requirements

• Currently enrolled in or a recent graduate of an ABA-accredited law school.
• Interest in pursuing a career in intellectual property, with some coursework in IP law preferred.
• Strong written and oral communication skills, attention to detail, and analytic abilities; experience in computer science, electrical engineering, or related technical fields is a plus, as is familiarity with AI and Microsoft Office.
