📋 Description

• Own the beating heart of Faire’s global marketplace. As an Intermediate Engineer on the Core Platform Infrastructure team you will design, build and operate the foundational systems that let 100+ product engineers deploy code safely to production hundreds of times per week.
• Architect and evolve our container orchestration layer (Kubernetes on EKS), service mesh, CI/CD pipelines, observability stack and cloud-native security controls so every micro-service at Faire inherits world-class reliability, performance and compliance by default.
• Write clean, well-tested infrastructure-as-code (Terraform, Helm, Go, Python) that provisions AWS resources in minutes, not hours, and can be understood—and contributed to—by any engineer in the company.
• Reduce mean-time-to-recovery to single-digit minutes by building automated runbooks, chaos experiments, graceful degradation patterns and self-healing capabilities that keep the marketplace online for millions of independent retailers and brands around the globe.
• Partner with product teams during design reviews to bake in SLOs, capacity plans, cost projections and security guardrails before the first line of application code is written, shifting reliability and efficiency left.
• Instrument every layer of the stack with OpenTelemetry, Prometheus, Grafana and Tempo to give engineers actionable, high-cardinality metrics, traces and logs that pinpoint anomalies without drowning in noise.
• Curate golden paths and paved roads: opinionated templates, generators and documentation that let a new service go from `faire new-service` to production in under 15 minutes while meeting our security, FinOps and observability standards.
• Lead blameless post-mortems, translate lessons into code, and share findings company-wide so we learn as one team and prevent recurrence across all services.
• Optimize cloud spend by profiling workloads, rightsizing instances, leveraging Spot and Graviton, and building auto-scaling policies that save seven-figure annual costs without sacrificing latency or durability.
• Participate in a lightweight, follow-the-sun on-call rotation (average <1 page per week) where your automation and runbooks make off-hours alerts rare and resolution stress-free.
• Mentor junior engineers and interns through pair programming, design docs and code reviews; champion an inclusive culture where diverse perspectives make our platform stronger.
• Stay ahead of the tech curve by evaluating emerging tools (eBPF, WebAssembly, policy-as-code) and running proof-of-concepts that keep Faire at the cutting edge of cloud-native engineering.

🎯 Requirements

• 3+ years building and operating production-grade cloud infrastructure on AWS (EC2, RDS, EKS, S3, IAM, Route53) with Infrastructure-as-Code tools such as Terraform or CloudFormation.
• Proficiency in at least one systems language (Go, Rust, Java) and one scripting language (Python, Bash) with a track record of writing testable, peer-reviewed code.
• Hands-on experience containerizing workloads, defining Kubernetes manifests, and tuning cluster autoscaling, pod disruption budgets and resource limits for cost and performance.
• Solid grasp of CI/CD concepts; you have configured GitHub Actions, BuildKite, ArgoCD or similar to deliver immutable artifacts through dev → staging → prod with automated integration, security and performance gates.
• Working knowledge of observability pillars (metrics, logs, traces) and have rolled out Prometheus, Grafana, Loki/Tempo/Jaeger or commercial equivalents to reduce MTTR.
