📋 Description
- • The Legal Intern role at Government Employees Health Association, Inc. (G.E.H.A) offers a current law student the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in an in-house legal environment within a nonprofit organization that serves over two million federal employees, retirees, and their families with medical and dental benefits. This internship is designed to develop practical legal skills while supporting G.E.H.A’s mission to empower federal workers to be healthy and well, with potential for future full-time employment based on performance and business needs.
- • Day-to-day responsibilities include conducting legal research on health law, insurance law, tax matters, and federal contracting; assisting with drafting and reviewing legal memoranda, summaries, and other legal documents; supporting attorneys with routine legal and administrative tasks related to ongoing matters; helping organize, track, and maintain legal files and documentation; assisting with preparation of materials for internal meetings and presentations; collaborating with legal team members and cross-functional partners as needed; and participating in departmental meetings and learning opportunities to gain exposure to in-house legal operations.

Successful performance may lead to consideration for full-time roles, offering a pathway into a stable career in health law or corporate legal services within a respected nonprofit organization.
🎯 Requirements
- • Currently enrolled in an ABA-accredited law school
- • 3.0 overall GPA
- • Authorized to work in the United States without employer sponsorship now or in the future
- • Strong verbal and written communication skills
- • Detail-oriented with strong organizational abilities
- • Demonstrated initiative both independently and within a team environment
- • Team-oriented with a positive, professional attitude
- • Proficient in Microsoft Office tools (Excel, Word, Outlook)
- • Excellent legal research and writing skills
- • Preferred: Coursework or academic focus in health law, insurance law, and/or tax law (particularly tax-exempt entities)
