Full Job Description

đź“‹ Description

  • • As an IT Operations Automation Engineer at Hopper Inc., you will be a pivotal technical solutions expert, entrusted with the critical responsibility of developing, facilitating, and overseeing automation initiatives within Hopper IT. This role is designed for a "first-principles" thinker, someone who possesses the unique ability to deconstruct complex technical challenges into their fundamental elements. You will then meticulously rebuild these processes using automated logic, thereby driving significant advancements in operational maturity and efficiency across the IT landscape. Your contributions will directly impact how IT operations function, ensuring scalability, reliability, and a proactive approach to system management.
  • • Your day-to-day responsibilities will be multifaceted and engaging. A core aspect of your role will involve building and maintaining essential automation platforms, with a particular focus on developing an Automation Service Gateway. This gateway will serve as a standardized mechanism for exposing and securing services within IT Operations, ensuring consistent and secure access for all relevant systems and personnel. You will be empowered to proactively identify opportunities where automation can streamline existing processes or introduce entirely new, more efficient workflows. This will involve developing new processes that adhere to the highest industry best practices for development, rigorous testing, and seamless implementation, ensuring that all automated solutions are robust and reliable.
  • • A significant part of your contribution will be in partnering closely with various stakeholders across the organization. Your objective will be to collaboratively identify manual workflows that are ripe for transformation. You will then design and implement scalable, compliance-driven systems to replace these manual processes, thereby reducing human error, increasing speed, and ensuring adherence to all necessary regulatory and internal compliance standards. Furthermore, you will be expected to provide advanced Tier 2 and Tier 3 support and troubleshooting for the systems you manage and develop. This will involve diagnosing and resolving complex technical issues, and when necessary, coordinating effectively with external vendors and internal teams to ensure that any elevated support requirements are met promptly and efficiently.
  • • Beyond the immediate tasks, this role offers a unique opportunity to shape the future of IT operations at Hopper. You will be instrumental in fostering an environment of continuous improvement through automation, allowing the IT team to focus on more strategic initiatives rather than repetitive manual tasks. Your work will directly contribute to the company's mission of becoming the leading travel platform globally by ensuring the underlying IT infrastructure is as efficient and reliable as possible. You will gain exposure to cutting-edge technologies and methodologies in a fast-paced, growth-oriented startup environment, making a tangible impact on a product used by millions of travelers worldwide.
  • • The team you will be joining is part of Hopper's dynamic and ambitious IT Operations department. This team is dedicated to leveraging technology to enhance operational efficiency and support the company's rapid growth. You will collaborate with talented individuals who are passionate about innovation and problem-solving. Hopper itself is a well-funded and proven startup with significant global ambitions. The company is revolutionizing the travel industry by combining a world-class travel agency offering with proprietary fintech products, all powered by massive amounts of data and advanced machine learning algorithms. This role offers the chance to be part of a company that is not only a leader in the travel tech space but also a pioneer in travel fintech, with a strong focus on transparency, flexibility, and savings for travelers. The entrepreneurial culture at Hopper encourages pushing limits and taking risks, making it an exciting place to work and grow.
  • • In this role, you will have the opportunity to learn and grow significantly. You will deepen your expertise in automation technologies, cloud platforms like GCP, and identity management solutions like Okta. You will hone your skills in scripting languages such as Python, Terraform, and Bash, and gain valuable experience in applying professional best practices across the entire Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC), including coding standards, code reviews, source control management using GitHub, and sophisticated build processes. This role provides a platform to develop your ability to think critically, solve complex problems, and implement scalable, automated solutions that have a direct and measurable impact on a rapidly growing, innovative company. You will also gain a deeper understanding of the travel industry and the fintech innovations that are transforming it, contributing to a mission that helps millions of people travel better and save more.

🎯 Requirements

  • • At least 4 years of experience in a similar role focused on IT operations and automation.
  • • Proven experience developing scripts in Python, Terraform, or Bash.
  • • Solid understanding of GCP, Okta (APIs and Orchestrator), and Google Workspace.
  • • Knowledge of professional best practices for the full SDLC, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management (GitHub), and build processes.

🏖️ Benefits

  • • Well-funded and proven startup with large ambitions, competitive salary and upsides of pre-IPO equity packages.
  • • Hopper covers 100% of the premiums for group insurance plan, including life, short term and long term disability coverage.
  • • Health Savings Account (HSA) that covers eligible medical and dental expenses, and access to Dialogue’s telemedicine services for all employees and dependents.
  • • Access to an RRSP plan with automatic pre-tax withdrawals per pay, and very generous parental leave above industry standards.
  • • Unlimited PTO, Carrot Cash travel stipend, and access to co-working space on demand through FlexDesk AND Work-from-home stipend.
