Full Job Description
đź“‹ Description
- • As an IT Operations Automation Engineer at Hopper Inc., you will be a pivotal technical solutions expert, entrusted with the critical mission of developing, facilitating, and overseeing automation initiatives within Hopper's IT Operations. This role is designed for a "first-principles" thinker, someone who possesses the unique ability to deconstruct complex technical challenges into their most fundamental elements. You will then meticulously rebuild these processes using automated logic, thereby driving significant advancements in operational maturity and efficiency across the organization. Your contributions will directly impact how IT services are managed, secured, and delivered, ensuring Hopper's technological infrastructure remains robust and scalable as the company continues its rapid global expansion.
- • Your day-to-day responsibilities will be dynamic and impactful. A core part of your role will involve building and maintaining critical automation platforms, with a specific focus on developing an Automation Service Gateway. This gateway will serve as the standardized mechanism through which various services are exposed and secured within IT Operations, ensuring consistency and adherence to best practices. You will be expected to proactively identify opportunities where automation can significantly improve existing processes, whether they are manual workflows or existing automated scripts that require enhancement. This proactive approach extends to developing entirely new processes, meticulously following industry-leading best practices for development, rigorous testing, and seamless implementation. A key aspect of your work will be partnering closely with a diverse range of stakeholders across the company. Your objective will be to collaborate effectively to replace inefficient manual workflows with scalable, robust, and compliance-driven automated systems. Furthermore, you will provide essential Tier 2 and Tier 3 support and troubleshooting for the automation platforms and related systems. This will involve coordinating closely with external vendors and internal technical teams when elevated levels of support or complex issue resolution are required, ensuring minimal disruption to operations.
- • You will be joining a team that is at the forefront of operational excellence at Hopper. The IT Operations team is dedicated to ensuring the smooth, efficient, and secure functioning of the company's technological backbone. This team thrives on innovation and is committed to leveraging cutting-edge automation technologies to solve complex problems. You will be part of a collaborative environment where knowledge sharing and continuous learning are highly valued. Hopper itself is a well-funded and proven startup with exceptionally large ambitions. The company is a leader in the travel technology space, leveraging massive amounts of data and advanced machine learning algorithms to power its mobile app, website, and B2B business (HTS). Hopper's mission is to become the leading global travel platform, offering transparency, flexibility, and savings to travelers worldwide through its unique fintech products and world-class travel agency offering. The company has achieved significant milestones, with its app downloaded over 120 million times and a strong appeal among Gen Z and millennial travelers. Hopper has evolved into a comprehensive travel fintech provider, commerce platform, and global travel agency, powering major brands like Capital One, Nubank, and Air Canada.
- • In this role, you will have unparalleled opportunities for professional growth and development. You will gain deep expertise in building and managing sophisticated automation platforms, working with cutting-edge cloud technologies like GCP, and integrating with essential identity and security solutions such as Okta. You will hone your skills in Python, Terraform, and Bash scripting, applying them to real-world, high-impact projects. By partnering with various teams and stakeholders, you will develop a comprehensive understanding of Hopper's business operations and how IT automation directly contributes to its success. This role offers the chance to make a tangible and significant impact on a rapidly growing company, contributing to the development of scalable, reliable, and secure IT operations that support Hopper's ambitious global goals. You can expect to learn and master best practices for the full Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC), including coding standards, code reviews, advanced source control management using GitHub, and efficient build processes, all within an entrepreneurial culture that encourages pushing limits and taking calculated risks.
