  • • As Parallel Bio scales its groundbreaking work in leveraging the human immune system for drug discovery, we are seeking our first dedicated IT Security Lead to establish and manage our end-to-end corporate IT infrastructure. This pivotal role is instrumental in building the foundational IT function for a fast-paced, venture-backed company operating at the cutting edge of biotechnology. You will be responsible for a comprehensive IT strategy encompassing identity management, device fleet administration, SaaS platform oversight, network infrastructure, and exceptional end-user support.
  • • This is a hands-on position that requires a blend of strategic thinking and tactical execution. You will inherit a functional IT stack and existing vendor relationships, with the mandate to operationalize, rationalize, and optimize these components as the company grows. Your daily activities will span from resolving immediate technical challenges to architecting long-term IT roadmaps, ensuring our technology infrastructure robustly supports our scientific mission.
  • • **Key Responsibilities include:**
  • • **End-to-End IT Operations Management:**
  • • Provide high-quality, responsive IT support to both in-office and remote employees across multiple company locations, addressing help desk tickets with a strong focus on customer service and timely resolution.
  • • Administer and maintain our Mobile Device Management (MDM) fleet, ensuring seamless operation of macOS, iOS, and Windows devices.
  • • Execute efficient onboarding and offboarding processes, including user account provisioning, device configuration, and access revocation, in close collaboration with HR People Operations.
  • • Oversee daily IT procurement, meticulous asset management, and accurate inventory tracking throughout the hardware lifecycle, from initial purchase to final decommissioning.
  • • Troubleshoot and resolve on-site technical issues, including basic network connectivity problems, A/V system malfunctions, and connectivity for lab-adjacent equipment, ensuring minimal disruption to operations.
  • • **Technology Stack Rationalization and Implementation:**
  • • Administer Google Workspace, managing users, groups, Single Sign-On (SSO) SAML integrations, and role-based access controls to ensure secure and efficient collaboration.
  • • Define and architect a scalable Identity Provider (IDP) and Identity and Access Management (IAM) architecture, planning and executing migration paths to support future company growth.
  • • Conduct a thorough audit of our existing SaaS stack, identify and consolidate redundant licenses, implement robust SSO where lacking, and manage the complete license lifecycle, from procurement and seat allocation to renewals and decommissioning.
  • • Develop and maintain critical integrations across our core systems, including Google Workspace, MDM, HRIS, and collaboration platforms, ensuring data flow and system interoperability.
  • • Create and maintain comprehensive, accessible IT documentation, catering to both technical and non-technical audiences, to foster knowledge sharing and self-service capabilities.
  • • **Network Infrastructure Ownership:**
  • • Act as the internal owner for all multi-site network infrastructure, collaborating closely with external vendors on design, implementation, and ongoing support to ensure optimal performance and reliability.
  • • Implement and maintain appropriate network segmentation strategies across corporate, laboratory, and guest environments to enhance security and operational efficiency.
  • • Continuously evaluate and evolve our network management approach to align with the company's scaling trajectory and emerging technological needs.
  • • **Security and Compliance Enhancement:**
  • • Partner with security vendors to implement and manage endpoint protection, identity management solutions, and critical compliance controls.
  • • Own and manage vendor relationships within the security domain, ensuring clear scope, accountability, and effective delivery of services.
  • • Support and enhance security hygiene practices, including regular access reviews, identity security tasks, and the meticulous gathering of audit evidence for SOC 2 and HIPAA compliance.
  • • Develop and refine our security operations approach as the company scales, collaborating with leadership to define the optimal model and necessary resourcing.
  • • **Vendor and Stakeholder Management:**
  • • Effectively manage relationships with all IT and security vendors, ensuring clear contractual scope, defined deliverables, and consistent value delivery.
  • • Maintain proactive and transparent communication with stakeholders across the organization, providing regular updates on IT initiatives, establishing clear escalation paths, and delivering responsive support.
  • • Actively contribute to and manage IT initiatives and projects, prioritizing tasks effectively and ensuring timely execution against defined timelines and objectives.
  • • This role is ideal for an individual who thrives in a dynamic environment, possesses a strong technical acumen, and can seamlessly transition between strategic planning and hands-on problem-solving. You will be instrumental in shaping the IT landscape of a company poised for significant growth and impact in the pharmaceutical industry.

🎯 Requirements

  • • 5+ years of comprehensive IT operations experience, including hands-on end-user support, systems administration, and vendor management.
  • • Practical experience administering SSO SAML within Google Workspace, including user/group management and app integrations, with the ability to architect a sustainable long-term IDP/IAM strategy and plan migration paths.
  • • Hands-on experience with MDM solutions, particularly for macOS (Jamf strongly preferred), with familiarity managing iOS and Windows devices.
  • • Proven experience in SaaS administration and license management within a growing and diverse tool stack.
  • • Strong foundational understanding of network principles, including VLANs, WiFi segmentation, basic firewall configuration, and troubleshooting methodologies.
  • • Demonstrated experience managing external vendors and contractors, including setting expectations, tracking deliverables, and ensuring accountability.
  • • Excellent technical writing skills for creating clear and concise documentation and knowledge base content.

  • • Ability to work on-site in San Francisco with occasional travel to other company sites.
