Full Job Description
📋 Description
- • As a Junior Service Engineer at Arxada, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of timber treatment plants across customer sites in the UK and Europe, directly supporting the company’s mission to protect health, nutrition, and infrastructure through sustainable chemistry and biotechnology solutions.
- • You will be responsible for conducting preventive and corrective maintenance, diagnosing faults, commissioning new equipment, and providing hands-on operator training — all while upholding the highest standards of safety, compliance, and customer service in a field-based role that combines technical expertise with interpersonal engagement.
- • Arxada is a global leader in specialty chemicals with over 3,200 employees across 24 production sites and 14 R&D centers, generating CHF 2 billion in sales in 2024; this role sits within the Wood Protection business unit, which delivers innovative solutions to safeguard timber in construction, landscaping, and industrial applications worldwide.
- • You will collaborate closely with a multidisciplinary team of engineers, technicians, and customer-facing specialists, contributing to small-scale project installations including piping, electrical systems, and mixing skid fabrication, while gaining exposure to cutting-edge process technologies and international service standards.
- • This role offers a unique opportunity to develop deep technical proficiency in mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems within a real-world industrial environment, while building customer relationship management skills and earning recognition in a people-centric organization that prioritizes internal growth, continuous learning, and professional development.
- • You will maintain service vehicles, tools, and spare parts inventory, ensuring readiness for rapid response to customer needs, and contribute to compliance documentation such as condition/service reports, risk assessments, and EHS records aligned with HSAWA, PUWER, LOLER, and pressure/electrical systems regulations.
- • Expect a nominal 37.5-hour workweek with significant flexibility to accommodate travel demands — including driving and occasional flying to customer sites across the UK and Europe — where you will apply your analytical fault-finding abilities to minimize downtime and maximize plant uptime and safety.
- • You will receive structured on-the-job training and mentorship from senior engineers, enabling you to progressively take ownership of more complex installations and diagnostics, while developing the confidence to communicate technical concepts clearly to operators, supervisors, and clients at all levels.
- • By mastering the integration of mechanical systems (pumps, valves, weldments, fabrications) with electrical controls (PLC, SCADA, panel diagnostics), you will become a versatile field engineer capable of supporting Arxada’s global service network and positioning yourself for advancement into senior service, commissioning, or technical specialist roles.
🎯 Requirements
- • A Level standard qualification or equivalent (HNC/OND, City & Guilds National, BTEC/NVQ Level 3) in a relevant technical discipline.
- • Preferred background in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering with hands-on training in fabrication, welding, pneumatics, hydraulics, and pipe fitting.
- • Practical knowledge of pump types (liquid ring, multistage, centrifugal) and experience with electrical systems including SCADA, PLC, and control panel fault diagnostics and testing.
- • Strong communication skills, analytical fault-finding ability, and a collaborative mindset with the adaptability to thrive in dynamic workshop and on-site environments.
- • Commitment to learning new skills, sharing knowledge, and adhering to EHS standards (HSAWA, PUWER, LOLER, pressure/electrical systems) while maintaining a customer-focused, safety-first attitude.
🏖️ Benefits
- • Opportunity to work remotely from the UK with a field-based role covering customer sites across the UK and Europe, offering variety and autonomy in daily work.
- • Access to world-class training and mentorship within a global leader in specialty chemicals (CHF 2B sales, 3,200+ employees) committed to internal career progression and skill development.
- • Exposure to diverse industrial technologies including mechanical fabrication, electrical control systems, pneumatics, hydraulics, and pump systems across real-world customer installations.
- • Company commitment to equality, diversity, and inclusion as an equal opportunity employer with comprehensive policies protecting all protected characteristics.
- • Supportive, people-centric culture that values tenacity, collaboration, and continuous learning in a vibrant, modern working atmosphere.
