Full Job Description
đź“‹ Description
- • Lead the full lifecycle of complex roadway design projects across North Carolina, from concept through construction administration, ensuring every alignment, profile, and cross-section meets or exceeds NCDOT standards and client expectations.
- • Own the corridor-modeling workflow in MicroStation/GEOPAK and emerging OpenRoads Designer platforms, developing 3D models, superelevation diagrams, and quantity calculations that become the single source of truth for plan production, cost estimates, and contractor bidding.
- • Direct multidisciplinary teams of engineers, EITs, CAD technicians, and sub-consultants, assigning tasks, reviewing deliverables, and coaching staff so that each member grows technically while the project stays on schedule and within budget.
- • Serve as the primary technical interface with NCDOT project managers, municipal clients, and FHWA representatives, presenting design alternatives, responding to review comments, and negotiating solutions that balance safety, environmental stewardship, and fiscal responsibility.
- • Produce and oversee the preparation of complete plan sets—roadway, drainage, traffic control, pavement marking, and signing—ensuring seamless integration of TMP, PMP, and erosion-control elements that streamline agency approvals and minimize construction delays.
- • Champion mentoring and knowledge-sharing by hosting weekly “lunch-and-learns,” creating CAD standards templates, and pairing junior staff with stretch assignments that accelerate their path to licensure and project leadership.
- • Contribute to strategic pursuits by writing technical approaches, estimating staffing and fee needs, and participating in interviews that win new work—directly influencing AMT’s growth trajectory in the Carolinas and beyond.
- • Continuously improve our digital delivery capabilities by piloting new OpenRoads Designer workflows, automating quantity take-offs with spreadsheets or scripts, and feeding lessons learned back into firm-wide standards that keep AMT at the cutting edge of transportation technology.
- • Uphold AMT’s 70-year legacy of safety, quality, and integrity by performing independent technical reviews, enforcing QA/QC checklists, and cultivating a culture where every line, label, and detail reflects the high standards our clients have come to expect.
- • Enjoy the flexibility of a hybrid work model—collaborate in our modern Raleigh office when design charrettes, client workshops, or team-building events call for face-to-face energy, then leverage secure remote technology to focus heads-down on modeling and plan production from home or another AMT office location.
