📋 Description

• As an L3 Developer on Jane Technologies' Backend Foundations team, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the core infrastructure that powers a platform used by thousands of clinics across North America and beyond. Your work will directly influence how engineering teams build, deploy, and scale features, enabling faster delivery and higher reliability across the organization. This role is critical in transforming Jane’s legacy Rails monolith into a modern, modular platform that supports long-term scalability and innovation.
• You will lead the design and delivery of reusable platform services and libraries—such as file handling systems, encryption utilities, background job processors, and developer frameworks—that are adopted by multiple teams company-wide. This includes evolving existing systems through Rails version upgrades, architectural refactoring, and the removal of technical debt, while simultaneously building new capabilities that prevent duplicated effort and promote consistency.
• You will partner closely with feature teams to understand their technical challenges, propose scalable solutions, and guide them through implementation, acting as a trusted advisor and mentor who removes blockers and aligns efforts with platform best practices.
• You will own the full lifecycle of technical initiatives—from initial planning and design through development, testing, deployment, and production monitoring—ensuring that security, performance, and reliability remain uncompromised as the system grows in complexity and scale.
• You will champion a culture of continuous improvement by documenting architectural decisions, sharing knowledge through tech talks and internal documentation, and helping elevate the technical expertise of the broader engineering team in domains such as backend systems, Rails modernization, and modern frontend practices.
• You will work in a highly autonomous environment where you are empowered to identify high-impact opportunities, make judgment calls about where to invest effort, and help steer the team’s technical direction based on customer needs and engineering excellence—not just top-down roadmaps.
• You will contribute to Jane’s mission of ‘helping the helpers’ by ensuring that the tools clinics rely on every day are built on a foundation that is secure, maintainable, and capable of supporting rapid innovation—especially as the company integrates AI into its platform to enhance both customer and team experiences.

🎯 Requirements

• 8+ years of professional full-stack software development experience with strong backend expertise, preferably in Ruby and Rails, though depth in other robust languages (e.g., Python, Java, Go) is valued.
• Proven ability to independently lead the design and delivery of medium to complex technical projects, demonstrating strong architectural judgment and the ability to balance simplicity with scalability.
• Hands-on experience using AI tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT, or similar) in your development workflow, with the ability to critically assess when and how they improve effectiveness.
• Demonstrated experience working within and evolving large, production-grade codebases—particularly transforming monolithic Rails applications into modular, maintainable platforms.
• Strong communication skills: ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences, write comprehensive documentation, and collaborate effectively across teams.
• Experience with modern frontend development using React, including building and maintaining UI components that integrate with backend services.
