- • Join a mission-critical initiative that directly impacts 1.1 million students and their families across New York City’s public schools. As a Language Validation Specialist (Albanian & English) you will become the linguistic guardian of the Hello App, a cutting-edge, cloud-hosted translation platform designed to tear down language barriers between educators and Albanian-speaking families.
- • Your voice and your linguistic insight will train and fine-tune AI models so that every parent-teacher conference, IEP meeting, and emergency notification is conveyed with crystal-clear accuracy and cultural nuance. You will work 100 % remote, collaborating with a global team of NLP engineers, QA analysts, and NYCPS stakeholders who are passionate about equity in education.
- • Daily, you will record high-quality Albanian voice samples covering classroom vocabulary, district policies, special-education terminology, and everyday family interactions. These recordings feed the speech-to-text engine; you will then audit the resulting transcripts for phonetic, grammatical, and contextual fidelity.
- • You will translate Albanian source text into idiomatic, FERPA-compliant English and vice-versa, flagging any loss of meaning, register shifts, or culturally sensitive mismatches. Each discrepancy you catch prevents a parent from misunderstanding a disciplinary notice or a teacher from missing a request for language support.
- • Using a custom validation dashboard, you will log severity levels, suggested fixes, and reproducibility steps for every error. Your tickets will be reviewed in agile sprint reviews, giving you direct influence over product roadmaps and model-retraining cycles.
- • You will participate in weekly calibration sessions with other Albanian validators to align on orthographic standards (Tosk vs. Gheg variants), transliteration conventions, and evolving NYCPS glossaries. Your documented decisions will become the canonical reference for future releases.
- • Beyond linguistic accuracy, you will assess usability: Is the translated text readable on a mobile screen? Does the voice playback sound natural at 1.25× speed? Your holistic feedback ensures the Hello App is not just correct, but truly useful in a bustling classroom or a parent’s evening commute.
- • You will collaborate with cybersecurity officers to confirm that all test data is anonymized, encrypted in transit, and purged according to NYCPS data-retention policies. Your adherence to FERPA safeguards student privacy and maintains the trust of the communities we serve.
- • Occasionally, you will join virtual focus groups with Albanian-speaking parents to gather real-world feedback, observe usage patterns, and validate that new features resonate culturally. These insights will loop back into your validation scripts, creating a virtuous cycle of continuous improvement.
- • At the end of each quarter, you will co-author a quality scorecard summarizing error rates, user-satisfaction deltas, and recommended linguistic model updates. Your metrics will be presented to NYCPS leadership and will directly influence funding and expansion into additional languages.
🎯 Requirements
- • Native or near-native fluency in Albanian (both Tosk and Gheg dialects) and professional-level proficiency in English
- • Demonstrated experience in translation, localization, or linguistic QA—preferably in educational or governmental contexts
- • Comfortable recording high-quality audio from a quiet home environment using basic USB microphone setup
- • Working knowledge of FERPA, data privacy, and cybersecurity best practices—or willingness to complete provided training within 30 days
- • Detail-oriented mindset with ability to spot subtle semantic, grammatical, or cultural inconsistencies in translated text and speech
- • Familiarity with ticketing systems (Jira, Azure DevOps) and collaborative dashboards; quick learner for new validation tools
