📋 Description

• As a Lead Backend Software Engineer at Trading 212 UK Ltd., you will play a pivotal role in shaping the technical foundation of a high-impact business domain that directly enables millions of users to build wealth through innovative trading and investing products. Your leadership will drive the end-to-end software development lifecycle — from requirement gathering and architectural design to deployment and optimization — ensuring solutions are performant, scalable, and resilient in a mission-critical financial technology environment.
• Day to day, you will lead a compact, autonomous, cross-functional team using agile methodologies, fostering a culture of ownership and technical excellence while maintaining high velocity without sacrificing quality. You will mentor and coach software engineers, helping them grow technically and professionally by identifying strengths and providing targeted development opportunities. You will design and implement microservices using Java 17/Spring and Go, leveraging PostgreSQL, MariaDB, Redis, Elasticsearch, TimescaleDB, ClickHouse, and Apache Kafka to build low-latency, fault-tolerant systems that handle massive scale and real-time data flows. You will take a holistic approach to problem-solving, aligning technical decisions with business goals, service architecture, and infrastructure constraints, while proactively identifying opportunities to improve product performance, reliability, and user experience.

🎯 Requirements

• Proven experience leading the development and release of complex, high-demand client-facing products from concept to production.
• Demonstrated ability to lead, coach, and mentor software engineers to deliver high-quality software collaboratively.
• Hands-on experience designing and building services in a microservice architecture using modern frameworks and cloud-native technologies.
• Advanced proficiency in at least two programming languages, with specific expertise in Java 17/Spring and/or Go.
• Deep understanding of relational databases (PostgreSQL, MariaDB), messaging systems (Apache Kafka), and in-memory data stores (Redis, Elasticsearch).
