Full Job Description
đź“‹ Description
- • Own the end-to-end design and delivery of enterprise-grade AWS landing zones for public-sector and regulated-industry customers, ensuring they meet strict security, compliance and operational standards from day one.
- • Act as the principal technical authority on every engagement, translating complex business requirements into scalable, multi-tenant cloud architectures that balance performance, cost and risk.
- • Lead cross-functional squads of engineers, architects and customer stakeholders through large-scale cloud transformations, providing hands-on mentorship while setting the technical vision and roadmap.
- • Automate every layer of the cloud stack using Terraform, crafting reusable, opinionated modules that enforce policy, security baselines and tagging strategies across hundreds of AWS accounts.
- • Engineer zero-downtime deployment pipelines that package services into AMIs, Docker containers and serverless artefacts, integrating blue/green, canary and feature-flag techniques to protect production workloads.
- • Champion infrastructure-as-code best practices across the organisation, defining standards for module structure, testing, version control and documentation that are adopted by internal teams and customer engineering groups alike.
- • Continuously optimise cloud cost and performance by analysing usage patterns, rightsizing resources and implementing auto-scaling, spot-instance and reserved-capacity strategies that deliver measurable savings.
- • Embed security-by-design into every build, leveraging AWS Security Hub, GuardDuty, IAM Access Analyzer and custom controls to detect misconfigurations early and maintain a mature cloud security posture.
- • Scope and design microservice architectures that run on Amazon EKS, ECS Fargate or Lambda, selecting the right compute model for latency, throughput and compliance requirements.
- • Produce high-quality technical collateral—reference architectures, run-books, threat models and compliance packs—that accelerates customer onboarding and positions Cloudscaler as a thought leader in the AWS partner ecosystem.
- • Present at monthly town halls, quarterly company days and external meetups, sharing lessons learned from the field and influencing the wider AWS community.
- • Contribute to pre-sales activities by providing solution sketches, effort estimates and risk assessments that help win new logos and expand existing accounts.
- • Establish observability baselines using CloudWatch, Prometheus, Grafana and distributed tracing, ensuring SLIs, SLOs and error budgets are transparent to both customer executives and engineering teams.
- • Drive incident response and post-mortems for critical customer environments, turning operational surprises into systemic improvements and feeding insights back into landing-zone blueprints.
- • Mentor junior and mid-level engineers through pair programming, design reviews and personalised development plans aligned to Cloudscaler’s transparent career pathways.
🎯 Requirements
- • Proven experience designing, building and operating enterprise-scale AWS landing zones in regulated environments (government, defence, financial services or healthcare).
- • Expert-level Terraform skills with a portfolio of reusable, modular IaC that has been deployed across dozens of accounts and multiple regions.
- • Deep knowledge of AWS security services and frameworks (IAM, KMS, SCPs, Security Hub, NIST, CIS, NCSC) with a track record of achieving or maintaining SC clearance.
- • Hands-on expertise with containerisation and orchestration (Docker, EKS, ECS Fargate) and serverless patterns (Lambda, Step Functions, EventBridge).
- • Strong stakeholder-management and communication skills, able to articulate complex technical trade-offs to both technical teams and senior customer executives.
🏖️ Benefits
- • Discretionary annual bonus scheme tied to personal and company performance.
- • 25 days holiday plus 5 additional training/volunteering days and a public-holiday opt-out scheme for maximum flexibility.
- • Life assurance, long-term disability cover and a 24/7 employee assistance programme that includes legal, financial and mental-health support.
- • All travel and accommodation expenses covered when working at customer sites, plus a Cycle-to-Work scheme and dog-friendly Aldgate office.
