Full Job Description
đź“‹ Description
- • Lead the end-to-end development and scaling of Drover’s React Native / Expo mobile application, serving as the primary interface for ranchers to monitor and direct cattle using virtual fencing technology.
- • Own the geospatial mapping experience powered by Mapbox, ensuring accurate, real-time cattle location tracking and herd management in remote, low-connectivity environments.
- • Design and implement robust data synchronization protocols that maintain seamless alignment between the mobile app, backend systems, and wearable hardware devices under intermittent cellular and satellite connectivity.
- • Integrate and manage communication with Drover’s proprietary ear tag hardware via BLE and NFC protocols to enable device pairing, firmware updates, and command transmission.
- • Debug, optimize, and maintain native-level performance across both iOS and Android platforms, focusing on battery efficiency, load times, and responsiveness in field conditions with limited power access.
- • Architect and enforce offline-first functionality to ensure uninterrupted operation when ranchers are in areas without reliable network coverage, with automatic sync upon reconnection.
- • Implement and maintain automated UI testing suites to ensure stability and reliability across device types and OS versions.
- • Collaborate closely with hardware, backend, and product teams to align mobile features with embedded sensing capabilities and livestock behavior models.
- • Drive product-level decisions around user experience, feature prioritization, and interface design based on direct feedback from ranching customers.
- • Build and eventually lead a mobile engineering team as the company scales from early-stage startup to commercial launch in Q1 2027.
- • Utilize AI-assisted development tools to accelerate prototyping and iteration, while maintaining rigorous standards for code quality, readability, and maintainability.
- • Monitor app performance metrics in production, including crash rates, memory usage, and user session duration, to continuously improve reliability for mission-critical livestock operations.
- • Ensure all mobile features comply with the rugged, real-world demands of ranching environments, including exposure to dust, moisture, extreme temperatures, and prolonged outdoor use.
- • Contribute to the overall product vision by translating rancher needs into technical requirements and advocating for user-centered design principles.
- • Participate in field testing and customer engagement to observe firsthand how the app is used in actual livestock management scenarios.
