📋 Description

• As the Lead Security Operations Engineer at Quartermaster AI, you will own the full spectrum of security operations, from detection and incident response to infrastructure hardening and vulnerability management, ensuring the security of cloud environments, development pipelines, and edge-deployed maritime systems in contested, mission-critical settings.
• You will architect and automate the defensive security stack, lead end-to-end incident response and threat hunting, implement hardening standards for CI/CD and containerized environments, and align security practices with NIST 800-171 and CMMC frameworks while translating metrics into executive reporting.
• You will work closely with Engineering and GRC teams to build a resilient, compliance-ready security posture for distributed open-ocean AI and robotics systems that enhance maritime domain awareness in defense and critical infrastructure contexts.
• This role offers the opportunity to build a security organization from the ground up, gaining deep expertise in securing AI-driven maritime systems, influencing strategic security direction, and advancing your leadership in defensive security operations within a high-impact, mission-focused startup.

🎯 Requirements

• U.S. citizenship with the ability to maintain a security clearance
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, or equivalent technical experience
• 8+ years of experience in security operations and detection engineering, with proven experience architecting and defending infrastructure in startup or defense environments
• Expert-level experience building and automating security monitoring stacks (SIEM/SOAR: Splunk, Elastic, Sentinel), EDR, and cloud-native security tooling across AWS, Azure, or GCP
• Proficiency in Python or Bash for security orchestration and hardening of CI/CD pipelines, Kubernetes, and edge-deployed systems
• Strong ability to align security operations with NIST 800-171 and CMMC frameworks, including translating operational metrics into executive-level reporting
