📋 Description
- • Lead the design and preparation of high-voltage substation physical design drawings including One Line and Three Line diagrams, Station General Arrangements & Sections, Electrical Details, Grounding Plans & Details, Conduit Plans & Details, Control Cubicle Layouts, Cable Tray, Lighting, and Illumination Plans.
- • Develop engineering studies for AC Load, Illumination, Grounding, and Lightning Shielding to support substation design integrity and compliance.
- • Create accurate Bills of Materials based on project-specific design criteria and client requirements.
- • Coordinate closely with protection & controls, civil/structural, and drafting teams to ensure seamless integration and quality of deliverables across disciplines.
- • Participate in client meetings, technical discussions, and project planning sessions to align design outcomes with client expectations and operational needs.
- • Conduct site visits and constructability reviews to validate design feasibility and identify potential field implementation challenges.
- • Interpret and integrate vendor technical data into design packages to ensure compatibility and accuracy of equipment specifications.
- • Apply and enforce client-specific standards and industry codes including IEEE, NESC, and NEC across all design deliverables.
- • Ensure full adherence to company Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) processes for all substation design packages.
- • Mentor and guide junior engineers and designers, providing technical direction and professional development support.
- • Demonstrate leadership potential to transition into a Supervising Engineer role with expanded responsibilities for project oversight, client engagement, and team leadership.
- • Continuously improve technical, engineering, and professional competencies through ongoing learning and application of industry best practices.
- • Utilize AutoCAD, MicroStation, or similar design tools to produce precise and compliant substation engineering documentation.
- • Apply familiarity with substation grounding studies using CDEGS and illumination analysis using Agi32 software in design workflows.
- • Leverage advanced proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel for documentation, reporting, and data management.
- • Model substation designs in 3D using Autodesk Inventor to enhance visualization, coordination, and constructability.
- • Maintain strict compliance with utility-specific standards and regulatory requirements throughout the project lifecycle.
- • Work independently from a home office within Ontario or Saskatchewan, managing multiple projects with minimal supervision while meeting deadlines and quality benchmarks.
