  • • Learning Engineer at Playlab Inc. is a flexible, remote-first role focused on building, prototyping, and designing AI tools on the Playlab platform alongside educators and partner organizations to empower them as creators of AI in education.
  • • Day-to-day responsibilities include co-designing AI tools with educators through hands-on coaching and design sprints, building exemplar AI apps for partner schools and districts, running virtual and in-person build sessions, hosting office hours for educator support, supporting student-facing AI projects, and bringing field insights back to inform product and partnership strategy.
  • • Playlab is a tech non-profit dedicated to helping educators and students become critical consumers and creators of AI through open-source, community-driven tools and professional development, with over 40,000 educators having published apps on the platform and backing from major foundations including Gates, Google, CZI, and Schwab.
  • • In this role, you will deepen your expertise in AI application design for education, strengthen your coaching and facilitation skills with diverse educator communities, gain experience in rapid prototyping and design thinking in real-world learning contexts, and contribute to shaping equitable, innovative AI use in K-12 settings while working across product, engineering, and partnerships teams.

🎯 Requirements

  • • K-12 classroom experience and understanding of educators' real-world problems
  • • Builder mindset with experience in tinkering, prototyping, and making things with new tools
  • • Strong working understanding of prompting, including system prompt design, few-shot techniques, knowledge grounding, and getting reliable outputs from LLMs
  • • Experience with design thinking, rapid prototyping, or helping people learn by doing
  • • Strong relationship-building skills and ability to earn trust with educators, school leaders, and district partners
  • • Commitment to equity and access, with a focus on reaching historically marginalized communities
