📋 Description

• As the primary Legal Counsel at Verto, you will serve as the strategic legal partner enabling the company’s mission to democratize global finance for businesses in emerging markets, providing critical legal guidance that balances risk mitigation with growth acceleration across product, commercial, and regulatory domains.
• You will lead the end-to-end lifecycle of commercial agreements—including customer terms, partner/aggregator contracts, and vendor agreements—ensuring timely, legally sound execution that keeps pace with Verto’s fast-moving fintech operations and revenue goals.
• You will provide expert regulatory advice on FCA frameworks governing Electronic Money Institutions (EMIs), including EMRs, PSRs, PRIN, COND, and CASS rules, while advising on safeguarding obligations for client funds and supporting international expansion into jurisdictions such as the EEA, US, UAE/DIFC, and East Africa.
• You will act as a legal advisor to the Product team on innovations like stablecoin on/off-ramps, API integrations, and FX products, ensuring privacy-by-design and UK GDPR compliance through data processing agreements and proactive risk assessment.
• You will manage external law firms for specialized support in tax, corporate structuring, and litigation, while maintaining strong internal governance by escalating legal risks appropriately and ensuring contracts do not stall business momentum.
• You will contribute to corporate governance and strategic initiatives, working alongside external counsel on corporate matters and advising leadership on legal implications of fundraising, partnerships, and scaling operations.
• You will thrive in a high-impact, autonomous role where your commercial mindset enables you to translate complex legal requirements into actionable business advice, fostering trust with non-legal stakeholders and supporting Verto’s high-growth, mission-driven culture.
• You will develop deep expertise in cross-border payments regulation, fintech compliance, and international financial services law, positioning yourself as a strategic legal leader in a rapidly scaling, globally recognized fintech backed by Y-Combinator, Quona, and MEVP.

🎯 Requirements

• Qualified solicitor (England & Wales) with a current practising certificate
• Minimum 3–4 years' post-qualification experience (PQE), preferably in financial services regulation
• Substantial in-house legal experience, ideally in FinTech, Banking, or Payments
• Proven ability to operate effectively in fast-growing startup or scale-up environments
• Experience managing external law firms and advising senior leadership as a trusted legal partner
