- • Stryker Corporation is seeking a highly motivated and forward-thinking Legal Counsel specializing in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Data Innovation to join our dynamic legal team. This pivotal remote role is designed for an analytically strong legal professional who will be instrumental in guiding the legal development of AI/ML tools, establishing robust algorithm governance frameworks, and navigating the complex landscape of data-driven technologies. You will play a crucial role in ensuring the responsible, ethical, and compliant deployment of AI across Stryker's enterprise systems, cutting-edge digital health products, and significant real-world data initiatives.
- • Your primary focus will be to collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including Privacy, Data Governance, Research & Development (R&D), and Product Management. This collaborative approach is essential for proactively addressing and navigating the novel regulatory and legal challenges that arise with the advancement and implementation of AI technologies.
- • A key responsibility will be to provide comprehensive legal advice on the multifaceted implications of AI/ML model development and deployment. This includes advising on intellectual property (IP) rights, ethical considerations, and the overall legal framework governing these advanced technologies.
- • You will be tasked with offering expert legal guidance on critical aspects of algorithmic governance. This encompasses advising on the principles of algorithmic transparency, ensuring model explainability, managing the AI model lifecycle effectively, and conducting fairness audits to mitigate bias and promote equitable outcomes.
- • The role involves providing essential legal support for various stages of AI development and implementation, including conducting thorough legal reviews for vendor engagements, assessing the legal compliance of data training sets, and supporting the co-development of innovative AI-powered tools.
- • You will counsel the business on complex issues related to cross-border data flows, data labeling practices, data retention policies, and the permissible re-use of data specifically for AI applications, ensuring compliance with global data privacy regulations.
- • A significant part of your role will be to partner with the Privacy and Digital Health teams to ensure that all AI projects are fully aligned with global data protection laws and other relevant regulatory requirements, maintaining a strong focus on data privacy and security.
- • You will be expected to actively monitor the evolving landscape of AI legislation worldwide, including landmark regulations such as the EU AI Act, U.S. Executive Orders on AI, and various industry-specific guidelines. Your role will involve translating these developments into actionable policy recommendations for the organization.
- • You will provide critical legal counsel on the practical deployment of AI/ML technologies, addressing key areas such as:
- • Vendor engagement agreements, ensuring clarity on IP ownership and licensing terms.
- • Establishing and upholding standards for fairness, transparency, and explainability in AI systems.
- • Developing and implementing robust risk mitigation strategies, particularly for AI applications in regulated medical device and enterprise environments.
- • Furthermore, you will advise on the legal aspects of enterprise productivity platforms, with a particular emphasis on licensing agreements, interoperability standards, data handling protocols, and ensuring user compliance with relevant policies.
- • You will work in close partnership with other specialized members of the legal department, including commercial, regulatory, IP, data governance, and privacy counsel. This collaboration is vital for coordinating efforts and ensuring a unified approach to all legal matters concerning AI, including:
- • The legal considerations surrounding AI model training, especially when utilizing sensitive or personal data.
- • Navigating the complexities of cross-border data flows and the integration of AI platforms.
- • Establishing appropriate data retention policies, access controls, and auditability mechanisms for collaboration tools that incorporate AI features.
