- • A rising 3L Legal Intern will support Cartesia’s in-house legal team onsite in San Francisco during a high-growth phase, working directly on cutting-edge legal questions shaping frontier AI, contracts, commercial transactions, privacy, and intellectual property.
- • Day-to-day responsibilities include conducting first-pass reviews of commercial contracts (NDAs, DPAs, BAAs), researching emerging AI regulations (EU AI Act, US frameworks), assisting with privacy compliance (GDPR, CCPA, BIPA, CUBI), supporting IP workflow (copyright, trademarks, patents), and counseling product and engineering teams on legal risks to produce actionable recommendations.
- • Cartesia is an AI pioneer founded by Stanford AI Lab PhDs who invented State Space Models (SSMs), backed by top-tier investors including Index Ventures and Lightspeed, with a mission to build AI that learns and interacts with the world like humans.
- • The intern will gain hands-on experience in AI governance, privacy law, IP strategy, and commercial contracting while developing skills in legal research, cross-functional collaboration, and translating complex legal analysis into business-ready insights under the mentorship of the General Counsel.
🎯 Requirements
- • Currently enrolled as a rising third-year law student (3L) at an ABA-accredited law school, graduating in 2027
- • Experience producing legal writing such as memos, contract summaries, issue briefs, or policy analyses that turn complex legal questions into concise, actionable recommendations
- • Demonstrated ability to manage a legal project from intake to usable work product with clear assumptions, organized analysis, and appropriate escalation
- • Comfort using AI tools (including Claude for Legal), Google Workspace, Slack, legal research platforms, document trackers, spreadsheets, and knowledge-management systems while maintaining accuracy and confidentiality
- • Ability to work onsite at the San Francisco office for 15 hours per week during the Fall 2026 semester
