- ⢠Lead the people side of tem's most technically complex team, the ML engineers who build Rosso, the AI-powered engine that prices, forecasts, and optimises energy transactions, ensuring they have the clarity, coaching, and operating systems to do their best work in a high-growth startup environment.
- ⢠Build and maintain high-performing ML team operations by leading hiring, onboarding, performance management, and career development; establishing clear operating rhythms, feedback loops, and succession plans that support engineers across junior to staff levels.
- ⢠Enable technical excellence without technical authority by acting as a sounding board for ML engineers on forecasting, optimisation, pricing, and classical ML challenges, surfacing risks and enabling expert decision-making without adding review layers.
- ⢠Drive collaboration between ML and software engineering within the Rosso service by partnering closely with the Rosso Engineering Manager to align priorities, improve cross-team communication, and strengthen integration of model development and production systems.
- ⢠Represent the ML team and champion tem's culture in a fully remote, distributed environment by communicating progress and risks clearly, leading intentional remote work practices, and engaging externally to attract top ML talent.
- ⢠Foster a strong feedback loop between production monitoring and development priorities, ensuring the team operates with predictability and focus on commercially critical outcomes in energy transaction infrastructure.
- ⢠Establish a clear development path for each ML engineer through progression frameworks, coaching, and performance conversations that build capability and address underperformance effectively.
- ⢠Contribute to tem's mission of rearchitecting global energy markets by supporting the team that delivers transparent, efficient, and fair electricity pricing through AI-native infrastructure.
šÆ Requirements
- ⢠Proven experience managing ML engineers or scientists across junior to staff levels, with sufficient understanding of the ML lifecycle and core disciplines including time-series forecasting, pricing, optimisation, and classical ML to manage credibly.
- ⢠Strong people development track record, including effective 1:1s, performance conversations that drive growth, clear progression frameworks, and coaching that builds capability across diverse career stages.
- ⢠Experience building and owning team operating systems such as prioritisation frameworks, sprint cadences, incident review processes, and feedback loops that enable consistent performance in technically complex teams.
- ⢠Strong hiring instinct for ML roles, including defining the bar, building competitive pipelines, and attracting top talent who have multiple offers.
- ⢠Experience managing technically diverse ML teams, capable of holding substantive conversations across forecasting, optimisation, and pricing domains without needing to be the expert in any single area.
- ⢠Proven ability to thrive in startup or high-growth environments, comfortable with ambiguity and ready to go beyond textbook people management to support team and mission.
