- ⢠The Manager of Continuous Improvement for Ryderâs Start-ups Team is a high-impact, remote leadership role responsible for driving operational excellence across new and existing warehouse and supply chain operations by leading CI initiatives that improve safety, quality, delivery, cost, and growth through data-driven engineering, lean methodologies, and automation.
- ⢠This role directly influences Ryderâs ability to launch and scale high-performing start-ups by embedding continuous improvement culture from pre-go-live through steady-state operations, ensuring new facilities achieve peak performance faster and sustain it long-term.
- ⢠Day to day, the Manager will supervise a team of CI engineers and quality professionals, leading hiring, coaching, performance management, and development while overseeing multiple complex supply chain projects and regularly interfacing with senior leadership and customer stakeholders.
- ⢠They will lead the development and execution of CI strategy, scorecards, and KPI action plans, collaborating with operational leadership to assess site needs, build improvement plans, and ensure process changes deliver measurable gains in key business metrics through regular reporting and progress tracking.
- ⢠The Manager will provide training, coaching, and mentoring in Ryder Business System concepts, translating lean tools like PDCA, 5S, Value Stream Mapping, and Kaizen into practical applications for teams and managers to achieve sustainable operational excellence, including direct support for start-ups, retrofits, and expansions.
- ⢠They will develop and apply advanced expertise in engineering methods, data analysis (slotting, labor planning, layouts), lean tools, and quality standards, ensuring tools like product slotting, time studies, flow optimization, automation, and resource modeling are effectively used to improve distribution and transportation operations.
- ⢠The Manager will facilitate and execute Value Stream Maps and Kaizen Events from A3 charter creation through sustainment, independently identifying process gaps, leading CI teams to implement improvements, and managing, tracking, and reporting the value of transformational projects across customer accounts.
- ⢠Additional responsibilities include managing the design, implementation, and maintenance of the Quality Management System (QMS), implementing standardized corrective action systems, supporting regulatory compliance, overseeing QA and internal auditing for start-ups and expansions, and performing other duties as assigned.
- ⢠The role requires strong interpersonal and communication skills, the ability to build relationships across all organizational levels, work independently and in teams, thrive in fast-paced environments, multitask effectively, and demonstrate exceptional organization and time management.
- ⢠The Manager must be skilled in system and change implementation, capable of managing multiple cross-functional CI projects from initiation to sustained results, and possess expert-level proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (especially Access, Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio).
- ⢠Intermediate proficiency in data visualization tools (Power BI, Tableau) and database programming (SQL, DAX) is preferred, along with expert knowledge in Leader Standard Work, Visual Management Systems, Management Accountability Systems, PDCA, Value Stream Mapping, Kaizen, and 5S/Workplace Organization.
- ⢠Expertise in core engineering and data analysis functions (slotting, utilization, labor planning, layouts, metrics) is required, as well as preferred experience with warehouse design tools (AutoCAD, Slot3D), predetermined motion systems (MOST), WMS (Manhattan Scale), and labor management systems.
- ⢠The role demands deep knowledge of warehouse operations, data analytics, industrial engineering, warehouse types (ambient, temperature-controlled), layout and design, lean methods, material handling solutions, automation (PIT, racking, conveyors, sortation, AS/RS), and transportation systems (JDA, Appian, Llamasoft, OTM, TMS, mapping software).
- ⢠Familiarity with HRM systems (e.g., Workday), hiring/onboarding processes, and intermediate knowledge of goal setting and performance management is expected.
- ⢠Lean Six Sigma certification is required, with PMP, ISO/QMS, and APICS/Supply Chain Logistics certifications preferred.
- ⢠A Bachelorâs degree in Engineering, Business, or Supply Chain Management is required, with preference for Industrial Engineering or Supply Chain Management; a Masterâs degree is preferred.
- ⢠Nine or more years of experience in distribution, warehousing, manufacturing, transportation, or supply chain logistics is required.
- ⢠The position involves 50â75% travel and is salaried, with a pay range of $120,000 to $135,000.
