📋 Description

• Lead and manage a team of engineering managers and software engineers, providing regular feedback, career development, and coaching to support their growth and performance.
• Create and execute a long-term technical roadmap that scales with Affirm’s fast-growing business and aligns with strategic objectives.
• Establish and track OKRs and critical metrics to define team direction, measure success, and drive accountability.
• Remove organizational and technical roadblocks, prioritize initiatives, and maintain high team productivity and morale across distributed engineering teams.
• Drive continuous improvement in engineering processes, tools, and practices to enhance delivery efficiency and system reliability.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with product management, design, analytics, risk, security, and decisioning teams to ensure technical sustainability, manage trade-offs, and align on product outcomes.
• Build and maintain strong relationships across engineering and other departments to enable effective design, implementation, rollout, and maintenance of critical systems.
• Own the availability, performance, and scalability of the Account Management team’s systems, which are operationally critical to customer experience, support efficiency, and fraud/risk outcomes.
• Occasionally contribute to hands-on technical work including architecture discussions, design/code reviews, pairing sessions, and direct contributions to unblock delivery or uphold engineering standards.
• Foster a strong engineering culture rooted in innovation, accountability, empathy, and execution.
• Coach, develop, and retain both engineering managers and individual contributors by creating personalized growth plans and supporting career progression.
• Lead hiring and onboarding efforts to build a diverse, high-performing engineering team aligned with Affirm’s values and technical needs.
• Manage end-to-end ownership of customer-facing self-service channels that handle authentication, identity, and security state — systems that directly impact user experience and risk outcomes.
• Work with backend technologies including Python, Kotlin, AWS, MySQL, and Kubernetes, and front-end frameworks such as React or Vue to deliver scalable consumer-facing applications.
• Maintain a high bar for engineering quality through technical judgment, architectural guidance, and active participation in code and design reviews.
• Demonstrate hands-on technical leadership by staying close to code and architecture, contributing directly when needed to ensure delivery and uphold engineering excellence.
• Drive stakeholder management and successful delivery of complex projects across ambiguous environments with competing priorities.
• Cultivate a humble, team-first leadership style that invests in peer development and strengthens team culture.

🎯 Requirements

• 6-8+ years in software engineering, including 3+ years managing engineers or equivalent leadership experience
• Experience delivering consumer-facing software and driving execution through ambiguity
• Experience designing, developing, and launching backend systems at scale using Python, Kotlin, AWS, MySQL, and Kubernetes
• Experience developing web applications using declarative UI frameworks such as React or Vue
• Proven track record in stakeholder management, ownership, and successful delivery of complex engineering projects
• Demonstrated ability to grow, lead, and support high-performing engineering teams
