📋 Description

• Serve as a bilingual Marka-English phone interpreter for clients across healthcare, 911, law enforcement, government, education, insurance, finance, utilities, travel, hospitality, and legal industries.
• Render accurate verbal interpretations of conversations between Marka-speaking individuals and English speakers, maintaining full fidelity to meaning without omissions or additions.
• Conduct interpretations in real-time over phone calls, adhering strictly to professional interpretation protocols and industry-specific terminology.
• Maintain professional, courteous, and neutral demeanor during all interpreting sessions, regardless of emotional intensity or sensitive subject matter (e.g., end-of-life care, pregnancy termination, sexual orientation, or gender expression).
• Remain calm and focused during high-stress situations, including emergency 911 calls, where callers may be incoherent, distressed, or overwhelmed.
• Ensure punctuality and consistent availability during scheduled work hours, responding promptly to interpreting requests as they arise.
• Follow client-specific instructions and protocols to ensure compliance with confidentiality requirements and avoid unauthorized interaction with limited-English-speaking persons (LEPs).
• Apply cultural competency to navigate regional dialects, accents, and cultural nuances that affect communication clarity and appropriateness.
• Utilize high-speed internet and approved devices (Windows, macOS, ChromeOS, iPadOS, or Android) to deliver uninterrupted interpretation services from a secure, quiet home office environment.
• Adhere to technical requirements including minimum 5 Mbps download, 3 Mbps upload speeds, ping ≤ 300 ms, and jitter ≤ 30 ms.
• Refrain from using restricted hardware (Huawei) or software (Kaspersky products) for work-related activities.
• Demonstrate excellent listening, retention, and note-taking skills to ensure high accuracy during verbal interpretation.
• Operate company-provided software systems and adapt to technology enhancements that improve service delivery.
• Maintain physical ability to sit for extended periods, operate a keyboard and mouse, and type or write with sufficient manual dexterity.
• Accept that this is an independent contractor role with no employee benefits, and compensation is paid at $0.75–$0.90 per minute based on call duration.
• Be prepared for variable call volumes and extended call durations without breaks due to the nature of emergency or critical service calls.
• Comply with all legal requirements including U.S. work authorization without visa sponsorship and eligibility for background checks and drug screens as required by location.

🎯 Requirements

• Fluency in Marka and English with demonstrated cultural competency in both languages
• Ability to interpret verbally in real-time with high accuracy, neutrality, and professionalism
• High school diploma or equivalent
• Legally authorized to work in the United States without current or future visa sponsorship
• Access to a dedicated personal device (Windows, macOS, ChromeOS, iPadOS, or Android) and high-speed internet meeting minimum technical specifications
• Minimum age of 18 years
