- • Serve as a Marshallese-English Video-Phone Interpreter, facilitating real-time verbal interpretation between Marshallese and English speakers across multiple industries including healthcare, 911, law enforcement, court, government, insurance, finance, education, and business.
- • Deliver accurate, concise, and culturally appropriate interpretations in both languages while adhering to established interpretation protocols, avoiding omissions, additions, or personal bias.
- • Conduct interpretation sessions via video and audio platforms using a dedicated personal device such as a laptop, desktop, tablet, or smartphone.
- • Maintain professional demeanor and neutrality during high-stakes or emotionally intense calls, including emergency 911 calls, end-of-life conversations, pregnancy terminations, and discussions on sexual orientation or gender expression.
- • Remain calm and composed under pressure during prolonged calls, high call volumes, or when speakers are incoherent or distressed.
- • Participate in mandatory paid professional training sessions conducted online, via video, or audio to develop interpretation skills and stay current with industry standards.
- • Type data accurately and promptly on company-provided devices during interpretation sessions to meet client and compliance requirements.
- • Ensure proper pronunciation, enunciation, and polite expression in both Marshallese and English to facilitate clear communication.
- • Understand and apply industry-specific terminology and procedures in medical, legal, financial, and insurance contexts.
- • Demonstrate cultural competency by recognizing regional dialects, accents, and cultural nuances to enhance communication with Limited English Proficient (LEP) individuals.
- • Adhere strictly to client instructions and interpretive protocols, refraining from direct interaction with LEP individuals without explicit client permission.
- • Maintain punctuality and availability during assigned work hours, ensuring consistent responsiveness to interpreting requests.
- • Work from a secure, quiet home office environment free from background noise or distractions to ensure confidentiality and clarity in interpretations.
- • Utilize company-provided software and systems to deliver services and adapt to future technological enhancements that improve service delivery.
- • Follow all technical requirements, including use of approved devices and operating systems (Windows, macOS, ChromeOS, iPadOS, Android), and avoid restricted hardware (Huawei) and software (Kaspersky).
- • Maintain a high-speed internet connection with minimum download speeds of 5 Mbps, upload speeds of 3 Mbps, ping value ≤300 ms, and jitter ≤30 ms.
- • Operate a headset for extended periods and remain in a stationary position in front of a computer and webcam for the majority of the workday.
- • Possess sufficient manual dexterity to type accurately and efficiently using a keyboard and mouse.
- • Demonstrate commitment to an inclusive, diverse, and equitable work environment while upholding LanguageLine’s standards of professionalism and confidentiality.
- • Be prepared to handle calls of varying complexity, from simple conversations to highly technical or emotionally charged scenarios, without interruption or personal involvement.
