Full Job Description
đź“‹ Description
- • Design, build, and ship features for the Flox platform, working primarily in Rust, Python, and TypeScript across CLI tools, backend services, and infrastructure
- • Own the end-to-end delivery of features—from initial design through testing, deployment, and production monitoring—with a focus on correctness, performance, and developer experience
- • Use agentic coding tools (Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot, or similar) as your primary development workflow, focusing on the most complex and ambiguous parts of the system
- • Build and maintain AI development infrastructure for the team, including harnesses, context engineering (CLAUDE.md), agent skills, rules files, automated feedback loops, and evaluation frameworks
- • Evaluate emerging agentic development tools and practices through experiments, measurable results, and evidence-based recommendations for team adoption
- • Help engineers across the team develop reliable, scalable AI-assisted workflows by documenting effective practices, codifying lessons, and creating shared standards
- • Exercise judgment on when AI agents enhance productivity versus when they introduce risk, complexity, or false confidence in code quality
- • Write production code with rigorous attention to quality, including writing tests, conducting code reviews, and making architectural decisions that balance velocity with long-term system health
- • Contribute to the evolution of team-wide AI development standards by identifying patterns that improve reliability, reduce technical debt, and increase engineering velocity
- • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure AI-assisted workflows align with security, reproducibility, and software supply chain goals
- • Maintain and improve documentation that enables other engineers to adopt and extend AI-powered development practices effectively
- • Prioritize building developer tools that are correct, fast, and a pleasure to use, with a focus on systems-level engineering and reproducible software environments
- • Stay current with advancements in AI-assisted coding and apply practical insights to improve team productivity without compromising code integrity
- • Participate in shaping the future of Flox’s platform by contributing to roadmap discussions and technical decisions grounded in real-world engineering constraints
🎯 Requirements
- • 5+ years of professional software engineering experience building and shipping production systems
- • Production experience with Rust, Python, and/or TypeScript—strong in at least one, comfortable across the others
- • Daily use of agentic coding tools (Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot, or similar) as a primary development workflow
- • Experience building AI development infrastructure beyond personal use: harnesses, agent skills, automation scripts, evaluation frameworks, or workflows that a team adopted
- • Strong engineering fundamentals—architecture judgment, ability to reason about complex codebases, discipline to maintain quality when code generation is fast and cheap
- • Clear communication skills and the ability to document workflows and practices in ways other engineers actually use
🏖️ Benefits
- • Remote work environment with global team collaboration
- • Opportunity to shape the future of AI-assisted software engineering workflows
- • Work on cutting-edge developer tooling at the intersection of AI, reproducible builds, and software supply chain security
- • Exposure to Nix, NixOS, and systems-level tooling used by enterprise engineering teams

About Flox
Flox is a developer tooling platform that lets software teams define, share, and reproduce development environments consistently across machines, operating systems, and stages (local, CI, production). It combines features of a virtual environment manager and package manager in one. Using a declarative manifest format, Flox specifies required tools, services, and dependencies, and ensures environments are portable, version-controlled, and reproducible. It is built on top of Nix to provide determinism without forcing users to learn Nix directly.
