- • The Director of Finance provides overall direction and leadership for finance within the Michigan Business Unit and assists with special projects within the Midwest Division and the Midwest Division Finance Cabinet while proactively offering perspective, advice and collaboration.
- • The role is responsible for all Finance and Accounting activities, including financial analysis and reporting, forecasting, managing multi-year funding streams, accounting, cash receipting, auditing, fiscal year-end processes, grants administration, spend rate analysis, private award management, contract review and approval, and ensuring compliance with TNC policies, legal and regulatory frameworks, GAAP, and financial best practices.
- • The Director contributes to achieving the Michigan Chapter’s strategic priorities through effective management, maintenance, and reporting of financial data, serving as the subject matter expert on fiscal positions and long-term sustainability, and communicating this information to Chapter and program leaders and the Board of Trustees to facilitate sound management decisions.
- • The position involves collaboration with the Operations Team and Conservation Operations team to manage day-to-day financial activities such as purchasing, invoice processing, vendor negotiations, and contracting for compliance, and may include supervising administrative or professional staff.
- • The Director will serve on the Midwest Finance Council, engage in collaboration with Midwest finance professionals, and may negotiate complex agreements with vendors and partners while ensuring programmatic commitments, TNC policies, and legal requirements are met.
- • The role includes developing the annual collaborative $10M budget process with budget managers and reinforcing consistency in organizational policies and procedures.
🎯 Requirements
- • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting, or Business Administration and 5 years of related experience or equivalent combination.
- • Experience with accounting principles, practices, and regulations, including GAAP.
- • Technical experience with grants award accounting issues and using accounting and financial reporting systems.
- • Experience with U.S. Federal Uniform Guidance, state and local regulations, multilateral and international regulations, and standard contract clauses.
- • Advanced expertise in Microsoft Excel and ability to act as a technical expert on complex accounting/financial issues.
- • MBA, CPA, or CIA may be preferred.
