📋 Description

• As a Mid-Level Backend Software Engineer on the Payments Team at Wellhub, you will play a critical role in maintaining and enhancing the core payment infrastructure that powers Gympass’s global platform, processing millions of transactions for users and companies worldwide. Your work directly impacts checkout conversion rates and account management efficiency, contributing to the company’s mission of making every organization a wellness company by ensuring reliable, secure, and scalable payment experiences.
• Day to day, you will execute strategic projects alongside a high-performing team of ~7 mid-level and senior software engineers based in Brazil and Portugal; design, implement, test, and deploy backend services using Java/Kotlin with Spring or Golang; collaborate with cross-functional teams and payment service providers to introduce new payment mechanisms and optimize existing ones; contribute to microservices architecture by improving scalability, reliability, and observability; write and maintain automated tests to uphold software quality; participate in code reviews and technical discussions to continuously improve system design; and engage with event-driven architectures and serverless technologies as part of ongoing learning and innovation.

• In this role, you will deepen your expertise in backend systems within high-volume, PCI/DSS-compliant environments; gain hands-on experience with cloud-native technologies including AWS and Kubernetes; strengthen your skills in microservices design, event-driven architectures, and serverless patterns; and grow technically and professionally through mentorship from senior engineers, access to learning platforms, and opportunities to shape your development roadmap—all while contributing to a product that improves the wellbeing of millions globally.

🎯 Requirements

• Foundational knowledge of RESTful APIs written in Java/Kotlin + Spring or Golang (mandatory)
• Experience with SQL databases such as PostgreSQL or MySQL
• Experience with microservices architecture and understanding of how to scale them
• Knowledge of cloud computing (AWS) and cloud-native technologies (Kubernetes), with willingness to deepen expertise
• Familiarity with software quality practices and test automation mindset
• Interest in learning event-driven architectures and serverless technologies
