📋 Description

• As an HPC Network Engineer at Mistral AI, you will play a critical role in enabling the performance and scalability of cutting-edge AI research and production by designing, deploying, and optimizing high-performance network infrastructures tailored for demanding AI workloads.
• Your expertise will directly influence the efficiency, reliability, and low-latency communication within Mistral’s HPC clusters, ensuring seamless integration between compute, storage, and cloud platforms to support breakthroughs in AI innovation.
• You will design, implement, and optimize high-performance, low-latency network architectures for HPC environments, including InfiniBand, RoCE, and high-speed Ethernet, ensuring optimal throughput and minimal jitter for distributed AI training and inference.
• Collaborate closely with HPC, DevOps, and AI research teams to integrate networking solutions with compute clusters, storage systems, and cloud platforms, aligning network capabilities with the evolving needs of AI model development and deployment.
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex network issues under pressure, following escalation procedures to minimize downtime and maximize system availability, ensuring that performance bottlenecks are identified and addressed swiftly.
• Monitor network performance, capacity, and security using advanced tools and telemetry, implementing proactive improvements and optimizations to maintain peak operational efficiency across Mistral’s distributed infrastructure.
• Stay current with emerging HPC networking technologies and industry best practices, evaluating and driving the adoption of innovations such as new RDMA protocols, smart NICs, and software-defined networking within Mistral’s environment.
• Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation for network architectures, configurations, and operational procedures, enabling knowledge sharing, onboarding, and long-term maintainability of critical infrastructure.
• Contribute to a culture of technical excellence by mentoring teammates, conducting knowledge transfer sessions, and ensuring that network designs are well-documented, repeatable, and aligned with security and compliance standards.

🎯 Requirements

• Proficiency in HPC networking protocols including InfiniBand, RoCE, TCP/IP, and MPLS, with demonstrated ability to configure and optimize these for low-latency, high-bandwidth AI workloads.
• Hands-on experience deploying and managing network hardware from vendors such as Mellanox (NVIDIA), Cisco, or Arista, including switches, routers, and NICs in HPC or data centre environments.
• Practical knowledge of network automation using tools like Ansible and Python scripting to streamline configuration, provisioning, and validation of network infrastructure.
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to diagnose complex network issues in fast-paced, high-stakes environments and implement effective solutions under pressure.
• Excellent communication skills in English (French is a plus), with the ability to collaborate effectively across technical teams and clearly document technical designs and procedures.
