- • Lead and manage the Agency Underwriting Scenario Team, ensuring consistent application of underwriting standards and alignment with CCM’s risk appetite across all loan types.
- • Conduct second-level reviews of loan-level escalations tracked in Airtable, including complex scenarios, fraud reviews, exception requests, and quality reporting findings, providing definitive decisions and documented rationale.
- • Deliver detailed feedback and decision summaries to VPs of Underwriting during mandatory daily team calls, ensuring transparency and alignment across the underwriting leadership team.
- • Perform weekly spot checks of VP-level escalation reviews not escalated to second-level review, documenting corrections, clarifications, and deviations to ensure adherence to policy.
- • Generate and analyze monthly escalation reports detailing outcomes, trends, and SLA compliance, presenting findings to the SVP of Agency Underwriting and VPs to drive operational improvements.
- • Grow and develop the Agency Underwriting Scenario Team by providing coaching, feedback, and clarity on agency insights, post-closing issues, and risk policy updates to enhance team performance and consistency.
- • Ensure the Agency Underwriting Scenario Team manager meets service level agreements (SLAs), maintains appropriate staffing levels, and conducts weekly team meetings and bi-weekly spot checks on team responses.
- • Participate in and ensure the Scenario Team manager attends all applicable underwriting meetings, RUM meetings, and at least one monthly Scenario Team meeting.
- • Manage, update, and publish the “Agency Questions Log” in Airtable and on the Underwriting page of the Landing at least once per month to maintain current and accurate guidance for underwriters.
- • Monitor and ensure VPs are effectively managing the Red Loan Report and Reg B pipeline, following up on loans that fall outside SLA thresholds and taking corrective actions as needed.
- • Communicate Credit Policy updates and changes directly to Branch and Operations teams through scheduled sales and operations meetings, ensuring field alignment with underwriting standards.
- • Conduct regular branch calls (daily, weekly, or monthly) as required to address underwriting concerns, provide guidance, and reinforce policy compliance across the West Coast region.
- • Operate primarily within Pacific Time or Mountain Time zones to align with West Coast operational needs and support regional underwriting leadership.
- • Collaborate cross-functionally with Credit Risk, Training, Operations, Processing, Closing, Post-Closing, Quality Control, and the Encompass team on joint projects, process improvements, and communication initiatives.
- • Maintain strict compliance with FHA, VA, and conventional loan program guidelines while evaluating risk and making underwriting decisions.
- • Demonstrate high levels of self-motivation, initiative, and ownership in driving underwriting quality, team development, and policy clarity across a nationwide distributed network.
🎯 Requirements
- • Bachelor’s degree in Business or Finance; advanced degree preferred
- • 10+ years of experience in mortgage underwriting with at least 2 years of management experience
- • Extensive knowledge of risk evaluation and regulatory compliance in mortgage lending
- • Proven expertise in FHA, VA, and conventional loan programs
- • Demonstrated ability to lead teams, provide constructive feedback, and improve underwriting performance
- • Highly self-motivated with strong decision-making and communication skills
