Full Job Description
đź“‹ Description
- • Be the operational heartbeat of Tom Steyer’s 2026 gubernatorial campaign, ensuring every organizer, policy advisor, and field director can focus on winning without worrying about printer toner, missing receipts, or a locked office door.
- • Own the day-to-day magic that keeps our San Francisco headquarters humming: from greeting the first canvasser at 7 a.m. to locking up after the last finance call at 11 p.m., you are the calm, resourceful presence who anticipates needs before they become problems.
- • Master multi-tasking in a true startup-meets-movement environment—on any given day you might be negotiating a last-minute bulk order of clipboards, troubleshooting a staffer’s frozen laptop, and simultaneously arranging same-day shipping for 500 yard signs to Fresno.
- • Build and continuously improve the systems that let us scale from 25 staffers today to 250+ by primary day: create color-coded supply closets, cloud-based filing taxonomies, and crystal-clear SOPs so that every new hire can onboard in minutes, not days.
- • Serve as the friendly face of Operations: field Slack pings, hallway questions, and impromptu “Hey, do we have…?” requests with empathy, speed, and a solutions-first attitude that embodies our people-powered values.
- • Guard our campaign’s financial integrity by shepherding expense reports from coffee-stained receipts to fully compliant line items in NGP—double-checking coding, chasing down missing memos, and flagging out-of-policy charges before they hit the FEC.
- • Partner with the Deputy Director of Operations to turn compliance deadlines into non-events: maintain meticulous digital folders, schedule recurring audits, and ensure every vendor W-9, lease agreement, and rental contract is scanned, labeled, and ready for instant retrieval.
- • Coordinate with HR to welcome each new teammate: prepare desks, preload logins, stock swag, and deliver a concise “how to not break the office” orientation that leaves them feeling supported and psyched to dive into the work.
- • Act as liaison to building management, janitorial teams, caterers, security, and IT vendors—translating campaign urgency into respectful, productive relationships that keep costs low and morale high.
- • Track inventory of everything from copy paper to Bluetooth speakers, instituting Kanban-style reorder triggers so that “we’re out of…” becomes a phrase no one ever has to utter.
- • Pilot small but mighty tech upgrades: roll out Slack workflows for supply requests, automate recurring Amazon purchases, or test a QR-code check-in system for office visitors—whatever saves time and reduces human error.
- • Contribute to event logistics by prepping shipping manifests, assembling volunteer kits, and coordinating courier pickups so that field teams in Bakersfield or Eureka receive their materials on schedule and intact.
- • Maintain rigorous security protocols—manage badge access, alarm codes, and visitor logs—ensuring staff safety and safeguarding sensitive voter data 24/7.
- • Capture institutional knowledge by drafting and updating an evolving “Campaign Ops Playbook” that future cycles will treat as gospel.
- • Embrace an ethos of continuous improvement: run post-mortems after every major milestone, solicit feedback via anonymous forms, and implement at least one new efficiency each month that saves the campaign real money or time.
- • Champion equity and inclusion in every operational decision—whether that means sourcing from local minority-owned suppliers, ensuring ADA-compliant office layouts, or translating signage into Spanish, Mandarin, and Tagalog.
- • Celebrate wins: organize surprise taco days, birthday shout-outs, and end-of-quarter mini-dances that remind everyone why we’re in this fight together.
