- • The Outbound Operations Supervisor - 3rd Shift leads a team of up to 30 warehouse associates during overnight hours (9 pm - 6 am, Monday-Friday) to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality outbound distribution operations at Cardinal Health’s Portland, OR distribution center. This role is critical to maintaining on-time, accurate product delivery to healthcare providers and patients, directly supporting Cardinal Health’s mission of improving the cost and quality of healthcare.
- • Day-to-day responsibilities include directing and managing warehouse associates to meet productivity and quality standards (e.g., lines per hour, cycle times, damage rates), monitoring performance metrics, providing real-time feedback, initiating corrective actions, and ensuring adherence to safety and regulatory compliance (OSHA, DEA, FDA). The supervisor conducts daily workforce scheduling, oversees equipment maintenance, leads continuous improvement initiatives (e.g., Gemba walks, Kaizen), and actively engages in employee development through training, coaching, and performance appraisals.
- • The role requires collaboration with cross-functional teams, especially HR, for hiring, disciplinary processes, and succession planning. The supervisor prepares ad hoc reports using Excel, maintains accurate timekeeping and attendance records, assists with EHS and QRA audits, conducts Job Safety Observations, and ensures proper documentation and housekeeping standards are upheld.
- • Cardinal Health’s Warehouse Operations function is responsible for the end-to-end flow of products—from receipt and storage to picking, packing, and shipping—ensuring inventory accuracy and timely fulfillment. This role contributes to operational excellence by driving efficiency, quality, and safety while developing talent and reinforcing a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
- • In this position, the supervisor will develop leadership and operational expertise in a large-scale healthcare distribution environment, gain experience with ERP systems (SAP/Manhattan), strengthen data-driven decision-making through Excel and metrics tracking, and build skills in team development, safety compliance, and process optimization—positioning them for advancement into higher-level operations or supply chain leadership roles.
🎯 Requirements
- • High school diploma or GED required; Bachelor’s degree preferred
- • 2-3 years of prior experience in warehouse operations, logistics, or a related supervisory role
- • Proven experience leading a team and driving continuous improvement initiatives (e.g., Kaizen, Gemba walks)
- • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including pivot tables and spreadsheet analysis
- • Experience working with ERP systems such as SAP or Manhattan preferred
- • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for coaching, reporting, and cross-functional collaboration
